Cummins 6.7L in a Freightliner FRED Chassis

We have a '85 Ford dump truck with the venerable 300 CI six (carburated). The engine is shot. Question is can I put a 1989 300 CI six which is fuel injected in. Can I keep the fuel injection or should I use the carburator and manifold from the old engine? If we use the FI what wiring and computer do we keep with the engine? HELP!!

Thanks, Mike in Florida

Yes, I'd love to put a Cummins in, but it mmight be a bit more expensive.

The carburetor equipped 300's were MUCH better, both for torque and fuel efficiency. Keep the exhaust manifold from the fuel injection one (it is split, like a header) and the intake from the carburetor one. Also, in some areas, if you swap in a newer engine, the emission equipment must go with it. If you put in a new "long block", no one will ever know!
300s are AWESOME, much like a "Cummins" of gasoline engines.
