Friend got a 6.0 - GARBAGE

We got a Ford F350 6. 0 at work the other day. 2004.

I have to say the thing is nice! We have a bunch (about 30 in all) of 00-01 F350 7. 3L, 96-98 12v CTDs and 00-01 24v CTDs.

To be honest, I think I like this new Ford better. The ride is a bit rought it seems though. HP D60, Sterling 10. 25 I believe. Not sure if the front is king pin or not, didn't have a chance to look.

It's got a factory trans temp guage, and also a boost guage. Interesting. I'd rather see a pyro. Not sure why boost pressure would be important enough that the factory would need to put that?

It's got a weird exhaust smell to it though, I'm not sure if I could get used to it.

them 6. 0 in the fords dont smell right at all or sound right but the VT365 in the IH is a great motor real strong and smells normal i dont know what ford did to it but its not the same at all

Cat converter on the 6oh's take the classic diesel smell away from the exhaust. They are runners, you just have to get the revs up for them to wake up.

Compared to the 7. 3Ls we have, the 6. 0 feels like it's gonna pull the hitch off the truck

Yeah I'm keeping my truck. I just just impressed with this Ford. I've always found the 7. 3Ls to be gutless until it would finally spool up, and I never liked the drive-by wire delay they have. Seems they eliminated that on the 6. 0?

The smell I don't like. It almost makes me nausous.

Any theories on the reason for a boost gauge? I don't know if these motors just don't make much boost or what. I got it up to 10psi, that's the highest. On my Dodge, same situation I can hit 20-25 psi.

By the sounds of it, the guage is screwed up. You can easily hit 28 psi stock with the VVT on the 6L. Since its running strong, Id say its the guage instead of the turbo.

Something is wrong with the gauge if the engine has good power. Both my boys have 05 Ford 6. 0L's and they pull 30+ psi boost and have real good power. But man does the mileage SUCK 13-14 in town 16 highway. Nice trucks but not for me.
