Heads up!! Road Checks in Colorado!

Biodiesel development being encouraged in WA

I got the chance to hear one idling at a stop light today. What the he!! is that!!!! It sounded decent at idle, but when he took off it sounded like a wind up toy or was there a duck being choked under the hood.

I'd used to think if I couldn't drive a Cummins my second choice would be a PSD, but with this new 6. 0L disaster showing up I would have to go with a Duradud or maybe a gasser. :--)

Duramax/Allison is definately #2 on my list. I wouldn't touch a PSD with a stick. I never have liked their fuel injection method. Give me a good ol' Bosch injection any day.

Just an observation... I don't know why the PSD has such a wierd sounding exhaust while the Duramax sounds like a turbocharged big block V8. It, like a stock '03 Cummins, has a sweet sounding exhaust note.

My plumber has a 2003 powerstroke-he has not had a single problem in the 6 months he has had it. Today next to me in traffic was a 2003 4-door 4x4 loaded powerstroke-had real nice new Rancho shocks on the back-I could see them real nice- the truck was up on a slide bed tow truck turning into the dealer. :D

I feel sorry for anyone who has the misfortune of a broken down brand new truck. I think we all know what a pain it can be and the frustration isn't really fair for anyone. Its fun to joke back and forth with Ford and GM owners about who has the best ride but now this is really a misfortune for the whole diesel market. Hope this does not turn out to be a fiasco like the early 80's GM diesels were... now is not a good time for people to stop trusting... and buying diesels again. Many a folk would still buy another Ford with a gas engine to replace a bad powerstroke as opposed to buying GM or Dodge. I want to see as many diesel pickups out there as possible no matter the brand. Many of our vendors also make a living selling powerstroke stuff also... I dont want to see this hurt them either. FWIW.

Hopefully they will get this worked out. Ford does not need another big problem on their hands. Diesel pickups are a major seller for them.

"I think they are run well enough to last for a test drive, the problem appears to manifest itself after 2-3 miles"

THEN:

"It sounded decent at idle, but when he took off it sounded like a wind up toy or was there a duck being choked under the hood. "

You guys are KILLING ME!:-laf :-laf :-laf

In another thread on the subject, a Ford dealer rep stated that on a recent shipment, 2 of the PS trucks couldn't even be started to drive off the transport truck - so they just had them returned to the factory...
