Ford Chips

Picture of Grid Heaters? Anyone?

i have been telling people around the dirt tracks how bad diesels have become. they all look at me like yea whatever "put it up against my 400 big block. " well they got a lesson in diesel 101 this weekend so this guy pulls up in his 04 6L with his mud truck in tow. he decides to see how fast him 6L is so he has a 125hp chip. he ran the stock class (cheated) but he whooped hemis chebbys etc. and his times where good enough to run with the modded class which had gutted bodies and strocked out big blocks. my cousin said that 6L was what everyone was talking about. "man that ford is bad". they all want one now. i sure hope ford has improved the engine and turbo transmission etc. if they ever get this engine right it going to be a serious contender. a chipped 6L will beat most modded 12 and 24v trucks. i am not a fan but i would like to spread some reality on this site. now let me say this right now the 6L is a overengineered POS. i will take my 12v. simple is good and in the not so distant future i will make those 6L look stupid with my dually :)... ..... although my being killed by the dowel pin had been a huge set back.

the 6L is fast when coupled with a chip but how will it last i dare to say 98% will not make it over 75K without a major issue. Ford has yet to see just how much $ they are going to loose. wait till all of the trucks start coming back in b/c they are getting around 50K-75K and still under warranty. even ford has to pay for a new turbo and the install time or engine rebuild. this is going to hurt big time in the future. and from what i understand even the new 04 still have issues

YUP - as pointed out above, the latest V8 diesels are capable of great performance - epecially when modded - but choosing a truck for excellence over the long haul is more than simply running from one stoplite to another. It's about overall excellence, economy of operation, and long-term durability and reliability - THOSE are the areas where Cummins still leads the pack by a wide margin! ;) :D

Drag racing and dirt racing..... whooopty-doo. Dont get me wrong... LOL I love dirt racing..... Oo. Oo. but I judge a diesel by its ability to blow everything away when loaded. Anybody can win stoplight wars empty.

Put 20k on that 6L, Cummins, D-max and everything else..... and then lets race.

and then let the :-{} :{ #@$%! and:-laf begin.

I just want mine to start every morning and get me back home every night. Then I want it to tow our 5th wheel 65-70mph reliably and comfortably where ever we want to go. Dodge/Cummins fills this bill better than the rest. :D

Talk about an ego buster. "Aint no diesel can do dat". I always hear it.

I love it when diesels spank gas!:D Funny half the people here seams to have done some kinda racin.

this post was about diesel starting to make waves all over the country yea the 6L is a pos but it is faster than the new dodge. with that said steve m is right that is why most have a diesel. but i have one more reason so when people get in my truck they say shti i cant believe a dually will run like this :) and pull and last and get good mpg. the 6L is going to be very fast but it will not beat the 10. 29. however give the ford guys a few years they have a better platform to work with than the 7. 3 as far a horsepower not longevity. let me make myself clear right now the 6L is a POS but with just a chip it will spank equivalently modified dodges. the main reason is they put a real transmission in their truck. the 48re while yet improved still makes you spend 4K to hold 450hp. i love dodge i like the new engine i like the old engine just know what you are facing before you talk shti. to someone with a chipped 6L you must be able to put out at least 425 ponies to keep up these days. from what i have seen with just a chip these trucks are running low 14's stick that in your hat. high 13's. now that is incredible that is with just a chip. with a 2nd gen 24v dodge auto truck that will cost you 7K. with a 12v it will cost you $6K 3rd gen 5k (the ats or dtt auto transmission cost is the problem).

one final word anything inline rules yea even an inline international are tuff V8's should only be used if there is no space

Yeah those v8's will run when chipped. I don't know first hand about fords but those duramax's will rip some pavement with just a chip. I was with a buddy the other day and he put a chip in his duramax and that thing was wicked for just a chip. I think he could toast me if he lined up with my dd2's and comp on 5x5. Not sure what kind of problems the dmax's are having, but still think the cummins is the way to go for longevity and pulling serious weight. Those v8's are for lightweights that pull their boat to the river on the weekends. The cummins is an engine for someone who has some real work to do day after day.

Unladen a high rev v8 has the advantage. The dmax has the shortest stroke so in theory it should rev the fastest.

The thing that makes the cummins slower is also what makes it so durable to uprates. Have you seen what it takes to get a PSD over 500hp. Whatever happened to psychostroker? Shouldnt his truck be done by now.

The pickuptruck test showed the dmax did well empty. It did badly with a load.

There is no question that with just a chip them things are darn fast.

In the end. It still takes the 6 to spank em all.
