Competition What about a Honda 2000 instead of a WRX

Competition Wheels for racing

To my knowledge nobody makes a spool for a dana 80 or a 14 bolt, so we must settle for a detroit locker. I have a spool in my front end, which is a reverse cut dana 60.

Is anyone else shearing off the 8 bolts that attach the axle to the hub on the dana 80 ?? I've snapped both sides & cant find a splined hub or something similar, to fix the problem. The stealer says this is a common problem. ??. Does anyone know a fix??

The Ford 9 is a joke in these trucks. I have seen truck loads of them break in light Fords with sick gassers and big mud tires, no way would they hold our torque.

I have heard of a few bolts breaking, but I thought it was from overtorquing them????

The Detroit I put in mine will make short work of our light axles, but they are easy to replace, compared to spiders once a week!

zjones,

I don't know of any sheared bolts but I've personally had concerns that they could. There is alot of stress in that area. Factory torque is high (90#) and they locktite the heck out of the bolts. I make sure the gasket, axle and hub surfaces are dry and smooth, then locktite the bolts, torque to 100ft lbs. Use new factory bolts every three removals. It's a good idea to use heat on the bolt heads to loosen the locktite as I have seen stripped threads. Larry

Sled Puller the dodge house had 20 in stock & said it was a common problem in "souped up" diesels.

I dont think it was an over touqued problem (as in tightening the bolts I  ) the bolts where sheared smooth. It happened at 11:30pm one night when I was pulling aprox. 22K lbs up a small hill accelerating (not hard) onto the main road. I ended up getting home at 2:00am on the front axle (man I love 4x4). Just pulled the axle out then taped a small ziplok bag over the hub (to keep the oil in & the dirt out). been looking for a better hub since

Zac

Sledpuller, You say you have a detroit locker in your rear? Where did you get it? I've looked everywhere and I've been told that you can't get one for 3. 54gears. Only 3. 73 if you use a special ring gear, and all 4. 10 and lower.

In Sledpuller's absence, I try... . When I tried to buy a Detroit locker for a Dana with 3. 54 gears, found they don't make it. You can buy a Detroit locker for a Dana 70 Heavy Duty (has the large carrier bearings) and machine the ring gear holes to fit a Dana 80.

I was told that ARB makes an AirLocker for the Dana 80 with 3. 54 but not for 4. 10's go figure. Larry

Yep, what roger said, but I will say one thing, I hate it on the street. With the heavy front end It is a death trap on slippy roads.

Thinking about pulling the entire rear, and swap in an open for winter.

I'm looking to put in detroit in my 2wd 3500. I'd love to have all four back tires spinning. Should do good in the winter with "a little" weight in the bed. Would you guy advise against it??? Gene, you say it's bad on slippery surfaces, is this because it get's squirrelly on ya?(My truck is'nt making 550hp either... ):D

spool = tube with splines on both ends and a mont for the ring gear

locker= still uses stock type carrier and some sort of locking device for axle to axle hook that can still posible slip at times

Spool for a Dana 80 from a H.D. 70

Many years ago I found a spool for a H. D. 70 ... ... It seems that a contracted machine shop was making a limited run on odd ball sled puller parts in the 1980's. I was ordering a light weight racing spool for a Dana 60 and jokeingly(SP) asked if they had one for a Dana 70 and the guy said they had made some a few years back. Well that turned into several conversations and about twenty phone calls later I was talking to the shop that had made them. Needless to say I bought one on the spot !

It is going into a friend of mine's truck and you can see it at

www.nvrenuf.fws1.com , just go to his " new projects" page or scroll down to the bottom and look at the photo album and find the Dana 70 stuff.

If the Dana 80 crowd wanted a spool, this would be a way to get one just by enlarging the ring gear holes to the 80 specs. When I got this one they only had a few of each series and I got one of the 4. 56 and up series. If Ya'll are interested in finding out if they still have any left or would still be willing to make more let me know and I will search for the phone # in my files and post it.

I hope this helps, Thomas
