Ford recalls nearly 260,000 trucks, SUVs, vans

Ford Motor Co. is recalling nearly 260,000 vehicles, most of them large pickup trucks, to fix safety defects that include sudden stalling of diesel engines, U. S. federal safety regulators said on Monday. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the stalling problem affected F-Series superduty pickups from the 2004-2005 model years as well as the 2004-2005 Ford Excursion full-size sport utility vehicle and E350 and E450 vans. All 180,104 of those vehicles are equipped with 6. 0 liter diesel engines and the recall stems from a potentially faulty fuel injection control module, NHTSA said. :-laf :-laf :-laf

I'll refrain from bashing Fords, but do you ever notice how every Ford recall contains the word "fire"? Also, all those Ford guys are always bragging about how many PSD's are sold compared to DC, but when they post these recall numbers, it doesn't seem to jive with the number of trucks that they claim they are selling each year. .

Those that live in glass houses... ... .

I've had a half dozen recalls on my Dodge so far. Still waiting for recalls on steering wander, fuel tank sensor, KDP, track bar, head light switch, etc... ... ... ... ...

My 12 year old Toyota? No recalls!!!

I think I had a total of about 5 recalls on my 95. When they stopped sending recall notices. I finally took it in. Took them most of the day to fix them all. The one that they mist was thotle cable replacement. I had that fixxed long before that recall came about.

I think dodge is the worst when it comes to amount of recalls. I know plenty of people that will not own a chrystler because of the high amount of recalls.

Ya frd always seam to have a fire issue. Nothing like a ol fashioned Car-B-Q.

Wow, they finally issued a recall. NHTSA's been investigating the stalling issue since 2003. I'm surprised they didn't issue it for 2003-up trucks.

No truck is perfect, but I've never been stranded by my 3 previous (Dodge) trucks. here's a post I lifted from another site re: this issue:

"I have a 04 350 crew cab dually with 17k miles. It blew the turbo hose and left me stranded with horses last week. It was towed to a dealer ( I was 4hrs from home)

I picked up the next day - hooked back up headed to the show and 50 miles later it blew again. Again it was towed- I picked it up 4 days later. I drove home last night towing a trailer and two horses- had to baby it the whole way. The rpms headed to the 4 range when at 65-70 mph. I had to drive 45mph to keep it at 2 + rmps. It was making a load rushing air sound by the turbo hose area. Type in " ford turbo problems"

on google. You will be amazed it is a chronic problem. I have spoken to numerous people, including service techs and mgrs. I was told by my own Ford dealership today to stay away from a the 6. 0. I am getting rid of mine. The mgr. told me difficult to solve the problem They had one truck that blew the hose - no joke 50 times. I loved my truck but now F - fix O- or R-repair D- daily is soooo... . true. I m heading

to Chevy or Dodge til Ford can figure it out. "

Hey, I'm just glad I have a Dodge/Cummins. Just some useful ammo the next time a Furd guy goes spoutin' off.

On my 1996 (which now has right at 200,000 miles): Replaced throttle cable myself (dealer gave it to me because recall was in the works and I did not want to wait for them to fix it), KDP AWOL in 2000, no damage done, reassembled front cover without dowel pin, 5th gear nut replacement in 2000 also, did myself, first fuel sender replaced under warranty in 1997, second replaced just out of warranty (myself) in 1999 and has never failed again, headlight switch overheating problem fixed myself by going to all LED bulbs on bed and trailer (never noticed a problem, just did as a precaution). No problems other than the above mentioned besides original clutch replaced by South Bend unit due to overpowering the holding force of the stocker when cam plate was removed.

40+ pounds of boost, 1000+ degrees F of EGT (post turbo) and never been into the engine at all except for KDP check and 199,866 miles. See why I swear by a Dodge/Cummins!! :D

I have several friends with powerchokes that can't keep them out of the shop. A lady friend of mine took her 2002 F350 in because of a BAD oil leak. The dealership said it is "very common" on the diesel trucks, soon after, the "check engine" light came on and she took it back and they said it was another "common" problem with an ECM fault of some type (possibly the potential stalling issue?) Another friend of mine and hers has a 2003 Dodge/Cummins with over 240,000 miles on it and it has been in the shop once (for ECM replacement at 200,000ish miles) and he pulls with it daily. We gave her H311 about her pukiechoke! ;)

D@mn a v-8 diesel!!

I have several friends with 6. 0s some of them are 05 models. I've found that I don't have to bash. I just wait and let their trucks do it for me. One of the guys here at work has 8000 miles on his 05 sick. 0 and has had it in the shop for repairs 4 times already. The first 2 times were for oil leaks the 3rd was for a transmission issue and now the water in fuel light won't go out. And it's impossible to get that pos to hold a gear in our hills around here where you seldom see over 55 mph and you usually have to slow down to 40 or so. It always shifting and always reving up like a gasser. I'm not sure what's worse, paying alimony to an exwife or making payments on a 40,000. 00 truck that is in the shop more than it's driven.

I don't know where you get your information from, it may be comic books or something, but it's not what I read and I stay very well informed.

I try not to bash anyone even though I HATE the powerstroke (duramax to for that matter) but the stalling issue helps confirm the old saying Fu$% Our Ride Died!! :-laf In all honesty though I work as a mechanic for the School District in my area and most of our new 6. 0's have had that problem, dealer hasnt been succesful with their warranty repairs yet, but at least there is a recall on them now.

As far as recalls as a whole go, I am glad that they do them. Even if they are bad for publicity. Granted sometimes the government forces them but other times they don't. At least when they arent forced they are recognizing their mistakes and fixing them before they might be a problem to someone. Show me a person that has never made a mistake and I will eat my words.

Yep ah ha all are from comic books. Yep I sit her and dream up all this stuff. Maybe one should research ones recalls and tsb's. Before one says I'm informed. Cause so am I!

I own Gm and Chrystler. Never got a reacall from GM. I know of three people who were scared away by the high amount of reacalls on Chrystler. Maybe Chrysler cares more than the other automakers? They take care of problems before too many people get killed. I'm sure they don't wanna end up like ford & firestone?

Its such an inconveince to take my truck to the dealer. Thirty miles away to one I trust. Then I have to arrange for a ride. Why cause its worth it?

I like my ride and don't care for any other product there.

Never any recalls on my 99 that I was aware of. 175,000 miles and it had never been back to Dodge. Lost 2 lift pumps that I replaced before going to the AirDog. My last 2 Suburbans were always in the shop not counting the stuff I fixed myself. Mom's 99 Yukon has been in the shop 4 times in the last year for odds and ends. Cheaply built low quality crap. Power window switches, door locks, A/C, alternator. My Suburban lost the front differential under warranty, the transfer case went at 60,000 miles, the alternator went at 65000 miles, the window switch made it to 72000 before dying and I traded the thing off at 126000 miles due to the rearend starting to whine. I'll never own another GM truck again. And this after driving them for 20 years and thinking Dodge was worse. The Ram has been a blessing compared to the 20 years of GM junk and inferior quality.

Yea, you got a 7. 3 in the older body style. I've got 2 here at work with over 150k and 10,000 hours hauling 15k everyday. They just seem to hold up better than the 99& up as far as transmissions and other things... Doug

In April I drove a F-450 6. 0 PSD from AK-WA-WY. It started the trip with just under 7k. 2200 miles into the trip its blowing oil out somewhere in the engine valley. I wasn't very impressed but it got to where I was supposed to drop the rig. The company decided not to take it in for warrenty until my roomate brings it back up this week. I'll probably end up driving back to Kansas and then back to Alaska later this summer. I'm PRAYING it holds. But then again I'm being paid so who cares, its just more money in my bank account for Cummins upgrades!!!!!

We were heading up 285 yesterday, which is a decent grade, and saw a new F350 dually sitting on the side of the road with it's hood up. It had an empty tandem axle utility trailer behind it. My 13 year old son said "he must have overloaded it. " :-laf
