Ford Bronco questions

Anyone on here have any good places to look at ford bronco's, or reason to consider another vehicle. I had two ford 1/2 tons that had the inline 6 gasse and loved the motor, have been wanting a commuter vehicle that I could also use for off roading occasionally, and my dually isn't always the best option for some of that. Was curious if the inline was an option in the bronco's and what years. I was kinda hoping to track down a failry decent mid to late eighties model if they have that.



Might also consider the ramcharger but I have to admit I have always liked the looks of the 83-86 bronco's, but never owned one so I can't really say I know anything about them, thanks for any help

Yeah a plain jane 300 with the manual would be exactly what I want, guess I'll have to start looking to see what is available

As far as I know, the 300 was available in them from the mid 60s (50s? whenever they introduced it) to 96, the last year of the bronco. Dittos on them being good engines- had one in a 1/2t with a 4 speed OD. Had 250K+ when we got rid of it, not much in the way of major repairs, but a new carb every 50K or so. Keeps up with a small block V8 towing/ hauling. Mine got close to 20 mpg empty.

The 302 first appeared as an option in '73.



I had a '69 Bronco with a factory 302 in it. Prior to that (67-68) I think they had an optional 289. Still a great vehicle..... still sorry I got rid of it.

Ford Bronco

I agree that the bronco had the same drive train as the falcons. 200 cubic in motor was the very best motor that ford ever had in the era. Had 2 of these units. Loved them. Hard to find now tho. No computers, not much emission stuff, just plain easy to run and fix. Loved them. I use toyota for a commuter unit now, but if I could find a decent 200 six bronco, I would switch. I also loved the falcons. Tim

I have an 86 Bronco, 351, 3" Rancho lift, 33" tires for sale. The body is in great shape but the engine has burned valves. When I bought the truck used the lady had run leaded gas and clogged the converter. The back pressure put a lot of wear on the valves.

I have had 2 300L6 in Furds, loved them both. Only downfall is 12-15 mpg.

The two trucks we had 300's in one was an 83 F250 4x4, awesome truck for crawling around in. It is the first truck I ever drove and I did almost anything I wanted in it. Went anywhere, etc. As a teen I didn't really care about fuel milage, so I don't remember what it got, but Mom thought she remembered dad saying he expected about 14 or 15 mpg. Then I had a 1990 F150 long box and with that I got an average of 19mpg, that was the first truck I ever sat and calculated it out to know what I was doing. I have to say I did absolutely love that truck and if it hadn't been t-boned and totalled I would probably still have it, even though I would still have bought the Dodge as well. Like I stated originally I love my truck but I don't like running it around on the old logging trails and what not, especially when you get into the real big ruts the duals make tracking in that difficult. The dodge is my heavy hauler and basically now I just want to find a good vehicle for being a beat up trail ride. I am considering a jeep and some others, but my history with those 300's is really driving me to see if I can find one in a bronco, another option I might consider would be a short box half ton. I would actually be happy if it had a crap body cause then I wouldn't feel bad about dinging it, and the price would be less, unfortunately those that abuse that also let maintenance and those other annoying things slip as well. Oh well, we'll just have to go a looking.

I sold our '86 Bronco 4x4, EFI 302 V8, 4-speed automatic, locking hubs, about a year ago. It was one of the cheapest to operate vehicles maintenance-wise I have ever owned. It did like gasoline (14 MPG) and tires(Twin I-beam front suspension). We put 196K trouble free miles on it.



The buyer couldn't believe that the odometer had turned over once and was going to again shortly by looking at the interior or exterior... mint condition inside and out!

I've owned two Broncos in the past; a '79 and a '92. The '79 was built like a tank, with the C6 transmission, NP205, and 9" Ford rear axle. I used it for plowing snow, but the body was starting to rust away, so I sold it before nothing was left. Both trucks were quite reliable, but did consume gasoline like crazy. Their short turning radius made them ideal for parking and plowing compared with the First Gen I have now.
