What engine was originally in the truck?

I just got done with my conversion, but still can't give any specifics on wiring. I went from 460 to '97 12V. I just traced down and isolated the water temp and oil pressure wires, and located an ignition hot wire. I used a painless wiring 7 circuit aux fuse box to run things. It's got 4 constant hot and 3 ignition hot circuits. I replaced the Dodge sensors with those from the 460 so my factory gauges would work right, well, as right as they ever did. I also have mechanical gauges.

If your converting from gas you have to swap out the fuel pump module in the tanks for the diesel pickup and fuel level sending unit.

rfull - I believe you emailed me already asking for pictures.

For the electrical I'm running the Fuel Shutdown Solenoid Pull circuit off the Ford starter relay (going through a 70amp relay) and the hold uses the Ford Fuel Injection Solenoid circut. Guages are all stock Ford sensors that replaced the Dodge sensors. Ford IDI oil pressure replaces the Dodge sender. Water temp needs a bushing to fit the Ford sender and so does the Water warning light sendor. Not sure what else you are looking for.

You can use 1 battery if you want to modify the trya for a big Group 31. I'm running a pair of 900cca's in the stock trays. Group 65's I think.

Cruise Control and Throttle are stock Ford cables with modified bracket to fit on the P7100 pump. Not sure what a PSD uses for a throttle so your guess is better then mine. I have pictures if it will help give you an idea.

I can mail you some information if you want to PM/Email your address.

EDIT: I added a little more detail that might help.

I measured an 1100 amp battery at NAPA, don't know what group it was, but it would fit the stock battery tray. The problem was there is a thick wad of wires running along the inner fender that would not let the battery utilize the entire tray.

I fabbed my AC and alternator brackets by looking at pictures of other conversions. I deviated from the norm by using a single belt to run all my accessories rather than the 2 belt setup. The Cummins pulleys have 8 ribs and the Ford accessories are 6 rib so I used a 6 rib belt and so far it is working well. If you have a V-Belt driven compressor you will have to use a 2 belt setup, unless you wanna change the pulley or get another compressor. I am sure you have found FordCummins.com by now. They sell brackets, pulleys, etc. I can email you some pics of my setup when I get home later today if you're interested.

Danny

I purchased the kit from fordcummins.com which is over priced for what you get and had to modify the parts a little just to get them to work. They use a separate belt for the AC which is not a bad idea but Danny's single belt is better IMO.

If you decide to go the fordcummins route - Please contact me first and maybe we can save you tons of money.

Also - I have a bad 92 Ford AC compressor with 6 rib pulley/clutch if it will help you.

Another option if you are energetic is to cut and box the frame were the Dodge compressor sits then you will have to play with the hoses to adapt to the Ford

i need a belt lenght too

i like that 1 belt deal... ... ... .

fords and all the manuf have been doing that for 12 yrs

and all big trucks too so its gotta be the deal/////

got some pic from dan

hell its easy it looks like... ... .

were did you get the thermostat housing?

got a week or two before i can start but got a heck of a lot better understanding

of what to do now... ... .

tdr rocks like the diesel stop but it just costs a little more to go first class!!!!!

Here are some part numbers that may help you out or save you some money. I got the thermostat and lower water outlet from FordCummins but I wrote down the Cummins part numbers off of them in case they are cheaper at a Cummins dealer.

BHAF: NAPA 2790

Radiator hoses, 3 required: NAPA 7423, 7224, 7694

PS filter: Wix part number 58964

Thermostat outlet: Cummins 3285102

Lower water outlet: Cummins 3934878

96" 6 rib belt, Drive-Rite brand from Advance: 960K6

Belt length for your application may vary from mine depending on how you fab your brackets. 3 radiator hoses needed because 2 are joined together to make the bottom hose. It goes from the right side of the engine to the left side of the radiator. Your radiator outlet position may differ from mine since your truck was originally PS equipped. If so these hoses may not be what you need. My top radiator outlet is on the passenger side and the lower is on the driver's side. If your radiator is opposite then you may be able to use the Dodge thermostat outlet and lower water outlet. But if you do that then you may run into interference trying to fit a single serpentine belt. Lots of things to consider and you have to think 4 steps ahead or you'll waste time and money redoing something. The inline power steering filter is optional but I wanted one for added insurance against pump failures. Use a 93 Dodge Cummins thermostat with the new thermo housing.

please send pic of the 1 belt deal

i got a 8 rib belt factory??????

PSD NOT IDI TRUCK... ... .

THANKS FOR ALL INFO

So you're saying your accessories have 8 rib pulleys? If so, that's great. You'll just need to buy an 8 rib belt in the 96" length, or thereabouts, depending on how you fab your brackets. More ribs are better because the wider belt will have more grip on the pulleys. Maybe I'll keep my eyes open for an 8 rib alternator and AC clutch/pulley.
