80's model chevy conv Q's??

Help me pick a transfercase

Ok What should I do ? My gen 1 truck a 92 the body is getting rough .

I got a chance to buy a 94 F350 crew cab for $2000, the bad part is it had a electricle fire and burnt the wireing and what not .

The good is that it just had the front axel rebuilt it has a 5speed , with a power joke , I assume it will need a new front clip and new AC box possible

radaitor ,and who knows if the power joke can be sold as a runner , the interior is real nice looks new .

From those who has done them I want to use my componets ,and transmission my truck has a new NV4500 with about 10,000 on it if that and new clutch

it has the Advance adapter kit on it .

What i want to do is use my engine and transmission , and either use the fords T-case or get a driverside drop 205 T-case ,no slip yoke - .

I dont want to run an electric fan , if possible id like to use my fan and intercooler may be my radaitor .

What motor mounts to use ,or whom build the best , ill buy them from whom ever or any other part .

Or would i be better off to hold out for a better truck or newer ? But if any one has a crew cab avalible let me know Thanks

If you can build a set of mounts id buy them if there proven . and your stock fan clears ( my trany does have the gen aa instal kit but that shouldnt affect that mount or transmission location .

The truck isnt burn bad ,it didnt get inside or the windsheild , it just burnt the wires and screwed up the paint , my thinking it be best to replace the front clip to be safe plus a wireing harness , the interior is like new , it had front end a motor work before it torched . , it also burnt some of the plastic , not all it stillhas the top radaitorhose but has a hole so it probally still run ?

I haven't been able to prove mine yet, I am slow, and I keep finding things I want to improve. When I get to finally test them, I will let you know how they work if you still haven't got some mounts.

There is a good possibility it will run with a new harness. One suggestion I might make is buy a harness from an IDI truck, it won't help you with the powerstoke, but it will make it a little easier to install the 12V

Will the IDI plug into the the plugs of a powerjoke ?

I figured on before i yanke it out to at least see if i can make it run

by some jumper wires and either jump starting it or pull starting it ,

I do got some interst from a guy that has a worn out 6. 9for parts any how .

Does any one know about Auto worlds mounts or Ford cummins mounts ???

The first fordcummins mounts weren't too good, but I think that they may have a better setup now, with peterbilt parts or something. I can't comment on the autoworld mounts. I had the first fordcummins mounts and I ended up modifiying them to use the powerjoke buiscuts. I have pics on Turbo Diesel Register - New Mexico Chapter in the garage if you want to check them out.

How long ago did they make the very first mounts ?

Does any one think im going to have issues useing the Advance adapter set up i have on my engine now ,im not shure how many miles are on the crew cab my transmission only has about 10,000 if that along with the clutch

Do i need the diffrent exhaust manifold thety are mentioning

/offering in the ford cummins /destroked kits and the alt/ac brackets ?

Im hopeing to use my intercooler if possible , if not what year do i get ?

No the IDI harness won't work with the powerstroke. I was just suggesting it to help with your install, instead of buying a powerstroke harness just to cut it up to get rid of the extra stuff you won't need. -Nicholas

I know the harness wont work to fire the power stroke from a IDI , what i was refering to will it fit the plug on the fire wall with out major issues .

I wont make it to the Ralley in New Mexico this year next who knows yet ???? Does he have any pics of his install during and after only thing

i really need to know is the motor mounts ,and fan and exaust issues and the alt and ac brackets and any wireing issues , ive read use the sending units

from what ever engine on the cummins , on my burb i only used the volt and speedo and fuel guage the rest have been removed and replaced

I apologize, I had it in my head for some reason that you were going to replace the entire harness. I don't know if the IDI will plug in to the powerstroke firewall or not, but I sincerely doubt it, that would be too easy.

only thing

You will have to do some work on the firewall, where the lip sticks out below the cowl, you will want to push it back so that it matches the contour of the transmission tunnel. I used an air hammer to push the metal back and then fold the part that sticks out over itself.

Motor mounts- I sat my engine in the bay on a couple of 2x4's under the flat part of the oil pan on top of the cross member, strapped the engine down, and then connected the transmission to the engine and strapped it up under the truck. From there I slid the motor and transmission back to where it was touching the firewall, installed the factory ford diesel radiator, and then slid the motor to the point where I had sufficient clearance between the firewall, and the radiator. Fabricate from there. I made my engine sit a little lower in the cross member too than where the FC mounts had it, because I am putting Twins on my truck.

Exhaust, buy a manifold for something like a F700 with the 12V 5. 9 Cummins, it looks like the manifold for a common rail truck, but it has the correct square ports for your engine. This manifold will give you better clearance between your turbo and a/c box.

Alt/A/C brackets- This I can't really give you much help on, I am having to do a custom set-up on my truck, because the S400 is sitting in part of the space where the alternator used to be.

I dont mind cutting the seam on the transmission tunnel , I had to do that on my burb its quick work with the cut off wheel makeing slits and a 2lb hammer

or if need be the 4 "grinder ,

i know once i start on it it needs to be a bang it out job , i cant live with out my pu for a long time so i want all the parts on hand and have

the engine ready to install before i pull it , other than probally sending my pump out to be checked/turned up and 366 spring installed , ( I wish some one lived close thats done a few ), no such luck .

Does any one know if you need to change the front leaf springs ?

May be the manifold /kit for alt and AC is the thing to buy who has used it from destroked or the other guys ?

The front leaf springs will be fine, althought they did have the tendency to arch over with the powerstroke, but an add-a-leaf fixes that. I would just use the standard exhaust manifold because it will fit fine and not get in the way of the a/c box. Fordcummins hasn't been making the old mounts for a year at least now. I would call them and destroked and pick the mounts you like best. I guess you are using the dodge alt. and a/c and I'm not sure how to do that part. If you use the ford one's, I'd say to get parts from either destroked or fordcummins. You shouldn't have any problems using the stock fan either. I had all the parts when I did mine and it took 4 days to get it going with the help of my brother. Then I drove it across the state and didn't have any troubles.

Ill just have to do a littel comparison first .

Now i got the hassel of finding anouther truck the guy sold it to a buddy

im told I seen a few others , but if any one has a mid to late 90 F350 crew cab let me know lets see if we can make a deal on it

Thanks

Donovan

but whats keep the thread going as i dont want any issues , im not opposed to either ACor alternator mine are fine .

I was wondering how hard is it to marry my harness to the ford stuff ?

I just traded my '01 3500 DRW for an '04 F350 King Ranch... the kids are getting older and the back seat of the Dodge just wasn't big enough anymore.

I love the Cummins motor... . a helluva lot more than that 6. 0L that's in the King Ranch now, but that's a compromise I made.

When the warranty runs out on the F350, I've been thinking that putting a CTD CR would be a good idea, but I'm wondering how involved it is. Here are a few questions I have:

1) Can you mate the Ford 5R110 (Torqshift) to the CTD, or do you need to put a 48RE or 68RFE in its place?

2) What kind of wiring harness adapters do you need, in order to mate the Cummins ECM to the Ford system?

3) Do you need to transplant a Dodge PCM into the Ford?

4) Will the Ford A/C hoses mate up to the Dodge, or do you need to transfer the Ford A/C compressor to the Cummins motor?

I look at that 6. 0L and wonder what in the hell Ford was thinking... the Cummins is so much easier to mess with, and it makes more sense to have the cylinders inline, for turbo purposes.

That damned Ford air filter sucks too! #@$%!

Thanks for the answers to my questions.

Im still trying to find a truck id love to have a F450

Did you look at the Destroked sight , i think you can do what your talking about .

The one thing Ive never seen nor figured out yet why hasnt any one used the computer mounted to the block like you see cummins doing so , then i think its just a few wires to change , but i like the non electronis engines

Donovan,

No, I didn't know about the Destroked website... thanks for the info. It would seem to me that, if you're going to use the CTD CR, you have to have the ECM... I can't imagine how the thing would work without it.

I just spent the last two and a half hours drooling over the DESTROKED: Cummins Conversions website. When the warranty runs out on my truck, this is the route I'm going. Hell, I might even have them put in an Allison transmission too! I saw somewhere that you can now convert a 5-speed Allison 1000 to a 6-speed.
