Here I am

Ford dead at 387 miles

Attention: TDR Forum Junkies
To the point: Click this link and check out the Front Page News story(ies) where we are tracking the introduction of the 2025 Ram HD trucks.

Thanks, TDR Staff

funny ricer parody.

Puegot, 4-60 NA diesel, need spare parts or engine

I almost felt sorry for the momma's boy until I read his unsubstantiated jab at Dodge and Chevy trying desperately to justify his $40,000+ mistake. After musing over this little tidbit, back up into the 6. 0 forum and read all the posts of tears. Our rare to occasional lift pump troubles are pale in comparison. :D

I don't normally point out other people's mistakes and the tears that follow but this one caught my attention and I just wanted to share. :-laf

A very good friend of mine took delivery of his 6. 0 powerstroke two friday's ago. he brought it down to MassDiesel and we threw it on a rack. Right rear shock mount was very loose on the rear end, front spring u-bolts were loose, and a couple of other misc things were loose.

Five days later he took it to the dealer to get it inspected, and with 472 miles on the clock, the truck would not run at anything off idle. The dealer traced it to the EGR (code set). Dealer told him after two and a half days of searching, the egr vavle was not available and there was not an estimated time when it would be available. Well, we made three phone calls to International, Minuteman ford, and a ford dealer in Wisconsin. We tracked down ten of the things in fifteen minutes (International said they shipped 862 egr valves to FoMoCo).

He got the truck back today, it seems to be allright.

It really burns my testicles that the service manager jerked him around like that. It doesn't make a difference what brand of truck it is, the quality of them all is pathetic, and the dealers are worse. .

I need another beer.

Ehe... . I guess he forgot to mention that his mother shoved the binky back in his mouth... . gave him his blanky back and put him back in the child seat(strapped in of course for safety's sake)

Just so nobody at the General feels left out, my buddy has a D-Max with about 50k on it, and for the last month, it has quit regularly. It has been at the dealership so often that he has run up a $500 bill in excess mileage on rentals alone!! Dealer says they can't find anything (although they have replaced filters, lift pump, some electronics, etc. ), and last time he was in, some moron (THE SERVICE MANAGER!) tried to tell him it must be his fuel gelling !!!!???? It may have been cold here for a while, but every supply of fuel is blended for our lowest possible temps (-50 or so) and has no trouble at the relatively mild -30 where we bottomed out.

I had similar toubles with my PSD when new, but this is due to a built-in design problem that was solved over at thedieselstop long ago. Dealers were no help, but made a bundle on warranty claims for completely unrelated fixes (many as recommended by the zone service troubleshooter). After 36k, truck has stayed away from dealers and been dead reliable.

We have suffered lift pump and turbo failures with our CTDs usually around the 100k mark.

Guess the answer is none of them are perfect, and VERY few dealer shops seem competent.

What a guy. Poor ole Sepp. Dun bought him a King Ranch and got embarrassed. He doesn't want the dealership to experiment. What did the dealership tell him? We've only seen one other of these trucks since November. I hope it works out for the guy. He obviously bought a status symbol. Too bad it has to ride around on the back of a tow truck for the world to notice it.

Check out the post entitled "pulling left while breaking"

When your Ford breaks, aren't you supposed to pull off the RIGHT and let a Dodge come help you out?

ANOTHER BETTER IDEA?

There is a guy on Ebay selling oil filters he says are for the new PSD 6. 0. He states that many dealers do not have them in stock yet. The picture he is posting is of a cartridge type filter, not a spin on. Now, get this- his opening bid price is $34. 95 each! How would you like to buy a few of those?

I have not checked this accuracy of this out, but if it is true, then it is outrageous.

A snapshot of part of my day:

Me: About a new Ford dead at 387 miles

Wife: What did it die from... . EMBARASSMENT?!

Me: :D

I LOVE this woman!!!!

Someone would have to be an idiot to pay that kind of money. They are available where they sell fleetguard filters. Around boston, Minuteman Ford has em (at non-ford prices), Fleetpride,

The dude on ebay must be looking for the fools.

The reason that the Ford's may start after being towed could be that they were just plain tired and wanted a piggy back ride to Momma's house. Once there, they feel much better.

Yeah, after reading that, I agree with Steve M. Had he not taken a jab at Dodge and Chevy, I could have felt a little sympathy for him. Funny part of that is, how many of any of these three brands of diesel have you seen on the back of a tow truck. I've only seen a couple and neither were Rams. What probably happened was that "Momma" turned the truck off to order Sepp a burger. Then she forgot to put the ole King Ranch back in park before trying to crank it. After sitting for an hour and being unable to figure it out, the tow truck arrives and loads the Ranch up. Of course, he puts in in park after loading. When they got to the dealer, voila, the thing starts right up. Miracle of miracles. The dealer can't duplicate the problem because they would never try to start an auto out of park. :p

Despite what is said about him here, he was treated like crap by some of the members over there. I've seen some rough stuff here, but that's usually in the Other Forum. They don't suffer fools or mistakes over there very well. Diesel Jay was pretty quick on the censorship button. They've always been that way, so at least they are in character.

Trying to be fair about this!!

This guy paid FIFTY K for this thing?? What was the worse buy-- the truck purchase or the poor advise / no advise given him by the other site members?

I cannot recall anyone concerned about their truck in our 911 forum getting treated like this by fellow TDR members. Sure ,there is some kidding around at TDR, but over all there appears to be much more desire to help out fellow members.

I guess to be fair ,I should read other threads on their site, but this one put me to sleep:rolleyes:

I have been around the other site for quite a while, and I have to say that where there is a real problem, the level of co-operation and exchange of ideas from SOME members is very good. The only proven (at least partial) solution to the cackle/knock problem was done in the open on the site. I dare say the collective knowledge and understanding of air-in-fuel issues far exceeds the OEM's.

I must also admit that fools are not suffered gladly or very discretely.

I have a feeling the problems aren't goin to go away too quickly. The new 6. 0 PSD has it's crankcase venting into the intake after the air filter and before the turbo. This constant mist of used motor oil will eventually coat everything from the turbo blades to the intercooler and intake sensors. An over oiled K&N pales in comparison. Our new '04 Cummins will have an EGR valve but the crankcase will still vent to the filter on top of the engine. I don't feel sorry for those guys. They crack on the Cummins every chance they get. As the score card adds up, I'm getting more and more satisfaction in the "I told you so" poetic justice dept. What I do feel bad about is that it's an American named truck that's causing so much grief. The Isuzumax on the other hand seems to be holding it's own pretty well.

I agree with your last post Steve. They do seem to take a crack at the Cummins quite a bit, especially when they're talking about problems on their trucks. There's a 3/4 ton Chevy with a Banks kit running around here, now. I'm hoping I get a chance to talk to the owner.

I run into a guy were i get break feast sometimes. Noticed last week he pulled up in what appeared to be a new four door Durawhat dually. He left it running. It was 35 degrees. I made a comment about in parking lot running and he said he just bought it with 16,000 miles on it. Said it's a BEAR to start cold and when it would fire up it went ROMP ROMP and smoked badly. Well i ran into him a few days later and now he said as well as the starting problem the Allision trans was howling like a bad power steering pump. Said it was louder the radio! I asked him why he bought a Chevy and he said he works for a Medium size Isuzu truck dealer!Any way he wasn't a real happy camper. Was making a appointment to take it back to Chevy dealer were he bought it used. He did say he loved the ride and room.
