I wouldn't say so much that international left them down as I would Ford. International has been running the motor in their trucks for about 2 years without any problems. Most of these problems came up when Ford put their hands into it.

The binder version is in the lower 200's on HP and hold up fine. Ford waited to see what the new Dodge was going to make and uped the power to beat that which they do for about 1000miles(+/-1000miles)

I found a press some press releases from may. It claims the power output was going to be 550 lb ft. Then they upped it to 560. If the transmission will take it. I dont think the mild uprate would matter. And it does give them bragging rights. They didnt really need it because it has more hp. But they figured they might lose some customers if it wasnt the big boy on the block. The duramax probably bit them deeper than they had anticipated so the mighty cummins probably spooked them with the awesome torque. The aftermarket for both motors is going to be great. I think international has a great lineup of motors. Its just the Newer v8s that arent fairing well. Before the psd came out the motors were very reliable. The 6. 9 and 7. 3 NAs were good. And the turbo'd 7. 3 is also alright. My pahs dont start very well when its cold out but other than that it has treated him alright. Hell it belches smoke for a few minutes even when it is warm out. Once you get her warm she runs like a champ.

I found a torque comparison chart on the ford site and its embarrasingly inacurate. Ford truck website Directly beneath the picture for the new PSD it says demo. Go there and click on Ford vs the competition. Now look at the Dyno graph for the dodge. Its #3. If someone was unaware that the cummins actually has a broader peak torque band than ford you might actually believe that horsepucky. The dodge has torque peak from 1400 to 2900. Or darn close to it. The ford has torque peak from 2000 to 3300. Look at the torque graph showin the fords torque peak running well past 3500. HMM. Well the dodges is puny in comparison. so im gonna go buy the 6. 0 since its already a proven engine. Mathematically the ford has . 00903% more torque. That seems to be well represented by the accuracy of the graph.

Actual cummins graph

The typical Ford fan is sold on hype. Not on actual facts. So the deceptive graph falls right into Ford's marketing gimmick. It's an exaggeration and outright lie but if you listen to the typical Ford owner, it goes right along with the mentality.

from what i have seen/heard it looks like the new psd isn't making the power it claims on the dyno... it could be just bull shat that i am hearing, but who knows... . ;):p

Big_Daddy_T,

I hope you are as happy with your Ford as I am with my Dodge.

They better hope it is making the power they claim. Several years ago they claimed the Mustang to be making a bunch more HP than it actually did. Cost them a bunch of money.

Yeah, they had a TSB out on the Mustang Cobras because they weren't making anymore power then the regular GTs were! They modded the motor just to get it to put out its stock claimed numbers.

No ford here. Just about bought a last production 7. 3. But they wouldnt deal with me. They moved the torque down to 1600 rpms where its supposed to be. 525 lb ft at 1600. Is quite a bit better than my 420 at 1600. w/ 275hp at 2800. Peak hp is also where its supposed to be. Not bad for a ford. It would have been nice to have it, to broaden my horizons. But Im glad I got another trusty 6. So now I have a 98 and a half and a 99. Im gonna sell the 98. 5 soon.
