Anybody Own a 785 New Holland Skid Steer?

Holy Crap - is it possible?

Please educate me alittle on Ford's Dual Mass Flywheel. Here are my questions.

What is it ?

What are the advantages?

What are the disadvantages?

What years are they used in Fords?

Is the Dual Mass Flywheel a Ford or International idea?

Thanks in advance,

Kent

I believe they were used up till about 98 or 99. They were a two piece flywheel that had springs to absorb the harmonics of the motor when you left out on the clutch. The problem with them was they would get wear on them and the springs would break. When the springs broke, it would knock the flywheel out of balance. Then the motor would not idel properly. It would shake like it was going to come apart. I had mine replaced twice in 100,000 miles. In my opinion it was a poor design. People tried replacing them with one piece flywheels. Some of them reported that if they left someone drive the truck that was not good with a clutch, it was easier for them to destroy the clutch with the one piece flywheel.

Supposedly the dual mass flywheel was more forgiving on the clutch, especially with someone that isn't the best at shifting gears.

My VW has one... . when I romp on it... . it growls quite a bit, but the clutch doesn't slip.....

It only does it at low RPM/peak torque situations... . higher RPM is fine...
