Ford Engine Options

OK, I am taking a lot of crap from a family member who recently purchased a new Ford. All of a sudden he thinks he is king of the road. I have heard the the 450 and up Fords can be had with Cummins motors. Can someone give me the scoop on this, are they options, standard, or nothing at all. I need to get my facts down before the next time we get together.

I think it is only on the 650 fords only.

Cummins can handle twice the gvw than the Navistar 7. 3 PS.

Cummins is the only medium duty engine in a pickup truck.

The 7. 3 PS is considered light duty. The difference is Cummins engineered to handle 30,000 lbs more than PS. Just compare engine tags sometime.

F 650's

Mike is correct on the 650's unless it has changed for 2002's.

I am not sure of the options available now, but just two or three years ago, even the Ford F-700 had the Cummins 5. 9 as an option. I am certain of that because I had a delivery by an F-700 and when the engine sounded just like my pick up, I asked the driver what engine the truck had and he showed me---just like the one in my truck. I was no doubt set up with more power, but it was the Cummins 5. 9.

Proved to me that Ford believes the Cummins 5. 9 to be more of a "Truck" engine than the powerstroke.

When a powerstroke driver friend tried to rib me about my Dodge by asking why I chose the Cummins, I told him I just took Fords recomendation that it was a better truck engine.

Last Ford F-750 I drove had an 8. 2L Detroit in it. I would have KILLED someone to get either a PSD or 5. 9 in there. Ford as well as most other medium and HD truck mfg. 's will put about any powerplant You want in a truck. I think Ford still makes a 429 CID truck engine, but maybe that's been replaced with the V-10.
