Newb but HAPPY

Frieghtiner/Cummins bus, died, no start, no wait to start light

No wonder why those things are always blowing up. The wife's little 1.9 TDI Doesn't even run that kind of rpm at that speed.

You had a Duramax before this one correct? What mileage was it retired at? I'm surprised that they haven't just replaced this truck for you at this point. The total cost of ownership when you factor the repairs and downtime has to be staggering.

Yeah had a Dmax. It busted/melted a piston at like 150-175K ( due to the infamous LB7 fuel system) They were gonna load up another bullet but the truck was so close to mileage out and years out that they scrapped it. The later Dmax trucks we had (and actually still have two of them that run) were much better after we were able to purge the fleet of the LB7 series engines.
The Ford is pretty much on par with the other 11 models we have.. the 12's are somewhat better as we have only had one 12 that has suffered a catastrophic engine failure. It spun the main bearings while idling in the Ford dealership service department. ( i think.. cant remember for sure)
We are all trying to get them to just purchase F550 with either the big gasoline V8 or the V10 engine..

Ok. Let me get this straight... You ventilated the work rig which is a '11 ford 6.7 with 125k miles while it was spinning at that speed? I hope you get a new rig out of this. Really. Ya know, some time ago my place nearly got sterling (rams). I'm glad they stuck with fords mainly because these are treated as if nobody owns em and I'd hate to see a great truck go to waste. On the other hand, seems you have some accountability with yours.

It didnt ventilate the block.. the bam was most likely raw fuel in getting dumped into the fuel system and lit off when the HPFP let go.. There was some while smoke rolling out of the tailpipe that smelled like unburned fuel.

yeah the speed limit on interstate here is 75.. its hard on these trucks. When driving from east Texas to out around Midland/Odessa, you pretty much ahve to run it on the floor for 8 hours or get ran over!
we are actually increasing the tire size when we replace tires to try to lower the rpm slightly.

I just got back from Nevada-California trip.. In Dunsmere Ca I met a fellow at a fuel stop. He was driving his Ford 6.0, had just over 100,000 miles on it and he said he was over $14,000 in repairs under the hood so far.. And was about to tear it apart to repair head gasket issues// Not a happy Blue oval guy..

Did you ask him if he was familiar with Albert Einsteins definition of insanity?

The company I used to work for had an International 4700 with a roll off body with a 7.3. I remember getting on the freeway with it a few times and at 65mph it was somewhere up around 2500-2600 rpm. I never really ran it much faster than that as I was almost always overloaded, and at that RPM it sounded like it wanted to grenade. I can't imagine cranking it up another 400 RPM and lettin it roll for hours on end! I wonder why they feel the need to run em at such high RPM.

That's funny. When I went to look at the '66 Dodge Coronet I recently purchased, I could have put it on the sellers lift, but it was tied up holding the cab of his son's 6-litre which was apart for "bulletproofing".

Hey if you don't mind, let's hear all about the '66 in the other forum. I love those!
Got a co worker here and even dealing with pstrokes as a job, still loves 'em and has a 6.0 excursion. He tells all about his bulletproofing. I just shrug.

OP, sorry didnt mean to hijack thread... wanna add one more thing. Dealership service department called today to inform me they are loading a new bullet in the truck. Not replacing the fuel system instead theya re replacing the entire engine with with a complete reman.
Apparently these engines are truly disposable

No problem Wingate. I hoped this thread would live on with other Ford follies! Any word on what exactly happened? You CANT load that bullet with a speed loader ;)

Last week when I stopped by our local Ford dealer to look at an Excursion, they had no less than 6 Superduty Diesels sitting behind the building by the service department. I can only imagine what they are there for.

if it was much more than a filter change it probably involved removing the cab!.
