Hey Y'all:

I've been trying to get the self adjusters on my truck to work. Had read post here on backing up fast an putting on brakes a couple of times and setting parking brakes. Didn't seem to work.

I decided to adjust manually today. Did it where I thought it ought to be, then went and got my friend, a retired Ford master mechanic. When I was confirming my procedure, he asked if they were self adjusting. I told him yep, but couldn't get to work.

He told me the correct way to use self adjust feature. Back up a few feet and brake, then pull forward and brake. Each time you back, You get one click on the adjuster. You need the forward braking action to reset the adjuster. Repeat until you observe no more change. Never seen or heard procedure explained this way.

So, you learn something every day.

Hope this helps y'all

Great info Wiredawg :D

Now my neighbors, who already think I'm crazy for driving "that big noisy truck", will be sure I've lost my mind when they watch me backing-up, then pulling forward, then backing-up, then forward,..... etc.

"Whatcha doin'?"... ... . "Adjustin' ma brakes"... ... .

Yeah right.

Little over 20,000 miles and have checked rear brakes several times and they seem to be okay. I back into parking spaces a lot and out of the driveway everyday. Maybe that helps?:)
