6.5 liter

isb to be 6.7 litre in 07

Last year Ford and International officials told Automotive News that the Power Stroke's troubles were over. But that turns out to be only partially true.

They LIED. Why should I believe them now when they say:

"We have not changed any policies whatsoever as it relates to defective material," Codina says. "We don't try to put this blame on the customers. We will spend whatever amount of time and money necessary to help customers who have problems. "

Or when they claim all the problems are fixed now?

And I can't believe a Ford executive actually said:

But Codina says Power Stroke has generated more complaints than rival diesels simply because more diesel Fords are on the road.

How stupid does he think we are? What PERCENTAGE of the trucks with 6. 0s have had problems, and how does that compare with the other 2 diesels?

On Edit...

And away they go!

I like the first responder, who admonished Autoweek for being "biased" toward Chevy. Actually, the article that appeared in Autoweek is a re-print of part of a series of 2 articles from Autoweek's parent publication, Automotive News. I have trouble accusing Automotive News of being biased toward anyone, least of all GM.

Gotta love the last paragraph in the write up.

And they will not cut the new truck any slack. If the new truck so much as sputters, James Schrader says he will pull into the nearest Dodge dealership and trade it for a Ram. :-laf

I just don't understand, we pay mass amounts off money for these trucks; Ford, Chevy and Dodge and it doesn't take much research to find out what truck is the best truck and motor in the long run. I don't know about anyone else, but I won't be able to afford another one of these things for a longtime. . Who doesn't know that the Cummins run forever?, but people still continue to buy Power Jokes... . All you have to do is look in the stalls at the Ford dealerships you can see first hand that those things aren't in there for a oil change... . I'm asking all those "water heads" that watch this site, "ARE YOU CRAZY, or just plane stupid?

I think you may be a little in error, here. A LOT of Ford owners are sorry they every bought a 6. 0 liter PSD.

A whole generation of PSD owners, like myself, are very pleased with our older 7. 3 liter PSD's. And we're gonna' drive them until heck freezes over. Mine is a 2001, 62,000 miles. It has 250HP/520# torque, which is plenty for pulling a 20,000 pound rig.

But the best thing of all is it's a true crewcab.

There is no argument that Ford screwed the pooch with the 6. 0 liter and it will not get much better, IMHO, until the 2012 or 2013 models. I've advised lots of folks to buy a older 7. 3 PSD for an older CTD (2003 Std ouput or earlier), because IMHO, they are more reliable.

I've also advised lots of folks that, IMHO, if they HAVE to buy a new truck, go with the 2006 CTD if the cab is acceptable. The 6. 0 liter Ford would be a far distant 2nd choice, but at least Ford has had 4 years of production to try to fix the problems... and I'm not convinced they've fixed them all.

Just for kicks, I never advise anyone to buy a Chevy. I ain't real smart, but I'm smart enough not to buy a diesel engine with aluminum heads. Or maybe, you can argue, I'm just too dang old to accept new technology.

And, yes, I was gonna' buy a 2006 3500 Quad-Cab CTD LWB before I found my current low-mileage '01 PSD. I still think the I-6 design is superior and I know it's easier to work on.

I've worked at a Ford garage for a while (and I'm walking out this week). Simply calling the 6. 0h junk is not enough. Whoever designed these pieces of s*** should be fired. We have a customer with an early 04 that has been in three times in the last month, with different problems each time. As if the engine itself isn't bad enough, they barely have it wedged under the hood. Any work on these things is a major production because the engineers didn't take a little extra time to put things where you could take it apart.

I drive an '05 550 at work, it's got 14,000 miles on it and had a tran's redone already and the other one we have just had it's tran's redone with 4,000 miles. Also, whoever designed these motors should be kicked in the n?t's! Tried to change the air filter today, what a joke! It took almost three of us to get the darn thing out. An air filter should'nt be a project. Now the new problem it has is when I shut it down and let it sit for say 20min. , it will chug and huff white smoke with no power like it's running on 6 cylinder's. My bosse's '04 sound's like it has a big cam in it when he first start's it in the morning. These truck's are stored in a heated shop, everyday! Just my experience with these GREAT truck's! :-laf

I have an 05 Ford 6. 0 at work (in the oil fields of Alaska). Last week the truck had a slight oil drip that was noticed while we where within 1 mile of the Ford shop. So we swing by to have them look at it. They say give us 20 minutes, two days later we got it back with a new turbo, new intercooler boots, new front seal on the camshaft. Truck has 7500 miles on it.

I have a 7. 3 ltr in my Excursion. Its not a bad motor, I think its under powered for the Excursion, but it works. If I had the $$ the Excursion would have a new twin-turboed cummins under the hood. Anyone want to donate to my cause??

I own a early 99 7. 3 and the whole set up has been the best truck I have ever owned Period. I can not give the 6. 0 the same praise because I have never owned one. I am disappointed in FMC and also thedieselstop.com for trying to cover up their products and forums so others may view. this post would have never made it to the forum which is wrong.

It was stated earlier why people by these trucks. Well we all know that reason and that is why the truck market has exploded and diesel is now out of site in price. (eventhough, we get better fuel mileage to consume less oil. ) A guy who wants a toy hauler hears that he can get 12-15 per gal loaded and 15-20 hwy empty. This person has never own a truck let alone a diesel so he buys the one that fits him the best. Look how many guys spell cummins with a g not knowing the difference.

I just saw tonight that the ISB will be a 6. 7 for 07 but all the emission involved only the die hard diesel fans will be buying them. they are already talking increased initial costs to a 50g truck. I am looking for a new truck now (wait a min) I know right now what my new truck will be but just waiting for the right time this spring. I hope by then DC will have a 6 sp auto in the trucks. So hurry up DC and get it to the production line. As far as my 99, I will cry when I have to sell it because it has been a great truck
