most don't know that International (Navistar) casts the B series block for Cummins in their plant in Jamestown, NY.
I find that hard to believe but am willing to read any info you may have.

It's where the Ford thing gets started, most don't know that International (Navistar) casts the B series block for Cummins in their plant in Jamestown, NY

Navistar has not cast any Cummins B blocks for quite some time now. . probably 10 years or better. To the best of my knowledge the Navistar blocks were cast in Indianapolis not NY.

Presently the B series blocks (and as long as I can remember) are cast in Mexico (Teksid) and Brazil (Tupy).

Most of the B series cylinder heads are Tupy's.

They don't offer the Cummins in it anymore.
I wonder if that has anything to do with this statement:

Cummins needs the lift. In North America its potential market for big truck engines is shrinking as customers such as DaimlerChrysler, Volvo (F ), and Navistar (NAV ) shift orders to their own affiliates.

Which also makes me wonder if an MB engine is destine for the Ram.

The above was reported in business week mid 2005.

http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/05_34/b3948463.htm

If that was their statement and that F was supposed to mean Ford, Business Week is clueless. Volvo Truck and Bus has nothing to do with Ford. Ford only owns the car division. Volvo Bus is the owner of Canadian motorcoach manufacturer Prevost, and transit bus builder NovaBus. Prevost is 100% Detroit Diesel, and Nova uses the Cummins ISL as standard.

I read that as-

Since Navistar is already affiliated with Ford then more of NAV products will find there way into Fords as Cummins is dropped from the truck line posted here.

Toyota an the rest of those that can't use a R in their language need to stay overseas. I use to LIKE imports but the more I know about how business is done between them and us my LIKE has turned to DISLIKE. No plants here in this country and a restriction on units imported in UNLESS turn about with a smile is allowed.

Ford might wish they own Cummins

Now this might be a rumor but GM was offered Cummins engine before Dodge and they turn it down? If they were that got to be the biggest blunder og the century.

does that mean toyota owns cummings?

Toyota is not going to merge with Ford. They are only talking about an exchange of PowerTrains. These kinds of talks go on all the time between other auto makers.

No plants in this country? What are you talking about? There are tons of foreign automakers with factories in this country. And tens of thousands of American jobs have been lost because the big 3 went to Mexico and opened factories there. It's a 2 way street, and the manufacturer that offers the best product for my needs will get my money, wheter or not they can use an 'r'.

Dido... . I know that Toyota has manufacturing plants in Tennessee, Kentucky, West VA, Alabama, Texas, and Indiana.

Granted, I'd like to see more American companies staying here, but labor is too expensive. I love my Ram 2500, but that thing was made in Mexico... .

Assembly Plants. The manufacturing plants are mostly elsewhere.

I'm well aware of the assembly plants. I meant what I typed. With the business practices of the imports with restrictions on OUR goods/autos those plants should not be allowed unless turn about with numbers etc. is equal. Thats all.

Don't be angry with the auto makers, it the countrys that set the trade rules. As a Toyota manufacturing employee, I can assure you that more than you think of a North American assembled Toyota is North American manufactured. Also with Toyota's Production System (Lean Manufacturing) There supplyers are close to the plants for less lead time. All automakers use overseas parts, there are less than you think in a US build Toyota. With all that being said, there is not really an import or domestic auto any more, it is a global market. With trade restrictions and cost to import or export the major automakers build plants world wide, they build it wheres it's going to be sold to keep cost down.

Ford is stupid either way:

1. If they owned Cummins, they are stupid for not putting in their own trucks.

2. Since they don't own Cummins, they are stupid for letting Dodge get Cummins first.
