Help with 7.3

Should I post info on Ford 6.0 worktruck

I'm asking for a friend at work, so I can't give a whole lot of details.

He has a 94 7. 3 turbo w/auto trans, and had a mechanic "tweek" the pump. This was some time ago, but the truck now smokes when put in reverse. He does'nt know how to turn the pump back down, and does'nt even know if this is the problem. Any advice? Thanks in advance.

What color smoke? White, blue, black? I doubt it only does it in reverse, more than likely that is when he's able to notice the smoke. When a pump is turned up it's set to deliver more fuel, my guess is he's just seeing some black smoke from excess fuel without any/enough oxygen (due to lack of boost). If it does it when cold and the smoke looks blue that is essentially the same thing. Too much fuel in cool cylinders with not enough oxygen. Hard to say, though, since you couldn't give a lot of info about the smoke. :D There's nothing about reverse that would make it do anything different than going forward.

Hogan, it's black, unburnt diesel. I don't know if the torque convertor can be acting up and trying to lock up at a low rpm and putting a load on the engine, making it smoke. I'm no transmission expert, and don't even know if this can happen.

It does'nt smoke in the forward gears. It even smokes at idle in reverse.

Anybody know of the screw or whatever it takes to turn this pump up? Neither of us have any idea how it was turned up.
