Replaced my box and pump @37000 mi due to failure from metal in fluid and looked over the original box before returning it for the core $$$ and noticed it says FORD all over it:confused:
Why would dodge use ford parts?
This truck has never been messed with or worked on since new by anyone but me so i know no one has scabbed on a junkyard box.
I am shocked ford would allow dodge to use there parts.

SHUCKS - if it had FORD all over it, no wonder it failed early... :-laf:-laf

WELL, Dodge/Ford shared rearends (Dana) for quite a while - maybe other parts as well, so who knows... ;)

I've never heard of that but it's possible that due to a steering box shortage at the time your truck was being built parts were outsourced from Ford or a Ford supplier. Stranger things have happened and most of us probably never know that our automobiles contain components from strange sources.

Throught at least 45 years of working on cars and trucks, I have noticed there have been LOTS and LOTS of interchangable parts. I used to keep a list of the different part numbers, that way IF the auto parts did not have one in stock, they just might have the other.

Ford PS pumps have been notorious for early failures, there were some years that the box had issues too. It certainly would explain why the Dodge Trucks seem to have the very same issues that Ford had for quite some time. Maybe we ought to look into how Ford fixed them so we can be done with the problems?? It is also possible that the pump you have was put into the wrong box ?? Is the Dodge part cheaper or is the Ford part cheaper ??
