6.0 PSD leaking on the lot

Cummins Re-Power

A friend just related to me the sad story about his new Ford 6. 0 purchase. He had owned 4 Dodge/Cummins prior to this purchase, think it was the 4 door cab that turned his head. It has been into the dealer 6 times, unfortunately, the first 3 trips were on the same work order #, so he doesn't have the 5 trips required for "Lemon Law". The dealership told him, "We don't know what is wrong, and we don't know when we'll be able to fix it!" Additionally, they won't take the truck back into the shop now, because they know that will be enough visits for "Lemon Law".

When he called Ford and told them he wanted his money back, he was told, "It is Ford's policy to repair the vehicle to the customer's complete satisfaction. "

His response, "What is plan B?"

Ford response, "It is Ford's policy to repair the vehicle to the customer's complete satisfaction. "

Going nowhere fast here, they didn't know what plan B was, if the dealer could not fix the vehicle.

Item #2: The tailgate bent when he loaded his golf cart. Ford wouldn't replace it, "External damage. " He was very persistent in his efforts to learn what the tailgate was rated for. Ended up talking to "Research and Development" (may not be the exact title), and was informed that the load limit on the tailgate is 100 lbs. He then went on a tour of Sioux Falls, and 8 of 10 tailgates he looked at were bent! He said he had often hauled 800 lbs. of dead weight on his Dodge tailgate, and his golf cart would have had 800 lbs. spread out over 4 soft tires.

He was headed for his lawyer's office this week - I haven't heard what has happened since.

My Dodge looks better with every passing mile!

What the H### is going on at Ford!!

Every day I read stories like this ... doesn't Ford know that their mistreatment of their customers will not only result in them NOT becominging repeat customers ... but will bad mouth Ford to all their friends & family.

How stupid is Ford?????????

I would love to see the story of the new 6. 0 diesel and some irate customers put on one of these news shows ... or at least a local TV Consumers interest spot. Just to highlight the treatment these people are getting.

Its amazing!!!!!

I read where an auto industry analyst said somethig to the effect "If it were not for customer loyalty and brand recognition, Ford would now be bankrupt"

It's not just Ford, it's all of them. I know two people with Chevys who also had big unresolved problems with Mr. Goodwrench. I personally don't know of any Dodge cases, but I'm SURE they're out there.

100 lbs on the tailgate? I weigh 230 lbs. How would I get in the truck? What good is a truck that can carry 3000 lbs if you can't get it past the tailgate?

Wonder if someone has talked to Dateline, 20/20, John Stossel (sp) with his "Give me a break" segments? If someone has, they probably won't do it because Ford is most likely an advertiser with them.

I just read a stoey in "Diesel Progress " magazine that the 6. 0 PS has rods made from powdered metal. It supposed to work good but?????

I've heard at the local feed store that the farmers are putting 3/4 plywood on the floors of the trucks because just walking across the floor carrying a sack of seed puts dents in it. As to the tailgate, I often have as many as 20 sacks of concrete stacked on the tailgate of my truck as the bed is already full and when I go on the job I want the concrete as close to me as I can get it. done this for the last 5 years. Truck before this one I reinfoced the tailgate with a 16 gauge steel plate and replaced it once for folding in the middle. Only reinforcement my tailgate has is the factory bed liner. I guess the f in the name ford stands for flimsey and the d for damned for any poor soul who bought one. You have to give Ford a certain amount of credit for the possibility of a just plain crappy dealer, for as we all know, Chrysler definately has their own share of those too. For all these guys who buy the Fords on looks alone, Ford must be selling these things on some subliminal message that says blond hair and boobs to these guys.

Ray,

Sounds like my 6 1/2 pound weiner dog would be the only thing that the tailgage can withstand!:-laf :-laf Hope things work out for him... vehicle probs are no fun!

Could be wrong here by I think the ISBe as them also. I'll see if I can dig up the right info.

Ir's really too bad the 6. 0L PSD is such a hunk of junk... The 7. 3L is a really good, proven engine. I have heard from other colleages in the business that the new 6. 0L is to Ford as what the 6. 5L was to GM. :(

On the other hand, the new 2003 Dodges seem to have very few problems, many of which are pretty small. :D

I've been trying to find out, but so far I am coming up with nothing... .

One thing to remember about the 7. 3L with the PM rods... They tend to let go around 325-350 HP. There's LOTS of ISBe's well above 450, so I don't think its much of an issue... I sure hope we got forged rods. :D

But arn't our rods are about 6 times bigger than theirs?

Yes, ours are much bigger. This thread has a picture of them.

I remember reading in here somewhere that the PM rods are also ending up in our trucks,.....

I knew that I would find it! Go here

What's so bad about powdered metal rods? The gas turbine industry has been using powdered metal turbine components for some time with great success.

In general, the physical properties of a part constructed using powder metallurgy are comparable to those of cast or wrought products of the same composition.

But not forged.
