Merc E320 CDI?

Different brake pull

Hello,

A friend of mine has a 68' Ford 3000 that the three point hitch hydraulics won't hold, they just slowly release. This is with the engine running and the fluid full. I'm not much on tractors(especially Fords) but where is the best place to start on this thing? What exactly would be worn out, and is there any kind of parts availibility for it.

Thanks,

Steven

My knowledge of Fords is limited to a 901 with a Select-o-speed trans, but they probably aren't a whole lot different.

It sounds like a draft control problem to me.

Could be a linkage problem or maybe the draft control lever is the wrong postion, if it has one (should). Generally right next to the lift control lever on those, IIRC. If the draft control lever is too far one way, it won't lift, and the other extreme will lift, but no draft control of 3pt.

Steven,

I have a '74 3000 and to me it sounds like it could be one or maby a combination of a few things. Is the lift contol lever all the way in the up position? How much weitht is on the 3-point? Is the drop occuring at engine ideal and with the RPM's up? Here is a list of the possible problems

1) Lift pistion leaking

2) Pressure relief valve

3) Lift contol valve

4) Lift cylinder safty valve

5) Check valve

6) Weak hydraulic pump

I have some pictures from the manual of the hydraulic system on my web page if you want to look at them.

You can get parts for your 3000 at any new holland dealer. Sounds alot like a relief valve gone bad, letting fluid run by and the pump cant build pressure. Or it could be the pump, but if it initially lifts the implement right up it probably isn't that. The seals in the lift arms are most likely bad with a machine of that vintage, but this would only cause the implement to drop if the machine was off. If the seals are shot bad enough to let the implement drop with the engine on it would lift very slowly when you try to raise it, if at all. Hope this helps.
