good deal for a 80 Scout Traveler Diesel

Aircraft Diesel Engines

I don't understand BOMBing a brand new truck, (break-in first?) and then expecting them to cover an engine problem under warranty. (a Powerstroke usually doesn't need outside help for problems :D )

I can't believe the guy would take it in for a problem like that with the box still on it! If it were me (and many others here) I would put my truck back as close as possible to stock, including the original airbox etc. before letting them look at it. I'm sure this will prove to be a costly lesson for the guy.

:-laf You got that right bighammer, I wouldn't even think of bombing a PSD. Well I guess some people have to learn the hard way.

Isnt it just like a guy who will buy a 6L and spend 55K on it to pull up a the dealer with the bos still on it and say... . duh my truck is knocking... duuuuh. i dont feel for this guy at all. but i will give him some advice get a cummins in that thing. according to the latest tdr mag a 6L new cost 12K plus. i have seen the 305 cummins for $6500. after install you will be looking at about 12K.

Boy ... with friends like those ...

The guy go to that forum for help and ... wammo! Everything from stupid idiot! to TROLL!

With friends like thoses, who needs enemies!

Fatcat,

They do tend to eat their own, don't they? I don't know if I'm ever going to put a box on my truck, but if I decide to, it'll be long after the truck is broken in and I have a reasonable expectation that everything is 100 percent. And this is with a Cummins. I'd never bomb a 6. 0 PSD as long as it was still under warranty.

Oh I see another one on the way. I have a buddy that recently bought a 2004 with a 6. 0. Of course he knows I have been running the TST box, so he wants something just as equal in power. He is looking at the superchips tuner for his truck. 150 HP. It should be interesting since I know how his luck is. In the past 5 years that I have known him he has owned a 2000 7. 3 PSD, a 2002 7. 3 PSD, a 2003 cummins and now a 2004 6. 0 PSD. He has had problems with all of them. The dodge blew a head gasket and wiped out the ball joints with only 20,000 miles on it. The 6. 0 only has 7,000 miles on it. I hate to see what happens here.

Thats pretty sad. He shouldn't have taken his truck in with the box on, and he shouldn't have had the box on in the first place, being the truck was only two weeks old!

Some people (including a lot of Ford owners) have more money than brains.

What an idiot. For two reasons. 1) Putting a chip on a brand new 6. oh-no at all... and 2). Being stupid enough to take his truck back to the dealer with the chip on it for engine problems thinking the'd cover it... .

He must be Brain-dead... .

You would think that since ford is looking at a lot of money to fix these trucks that someone would be smart enough NOT to give them a good reason not to fix the truck!

Boy I wish I could reply over there, I'd say run run run away from the dealer dummy. Learn to turn a wrench buy a service manual some tools etc... 6 pages of posts and nobody mentioned buying a Cummins... ?

Its impressive how many people say, "That happened to my truck and... . " Given the accumulated knowledge they have, they should at least improve their lot in life.

I wonder if its better to have more money than sense?
