When Did D/c Have A Stepside 2nd Gen Body

Energy crisis - what can/should we do?

My father owns a 2003 F350 7. 3 Diesel. "Poor guy". Anyway, at 25,000 miles and not even two years old (last fall) he took the truck in for normal maitenance at the dealer that he bought it from. They looked everything over and found that the rear pinior gear was bad. At that time, they said to leave it alone and not worry about it. This was written down by the service manager at the dealer.

This summer, with 50,500 miles on the truck, my father took the truck to the dealer for his normal yearly check over and was told that the pinion gear was in fact quite bad and needed to be replaced. The cost for this was around $2,900. My father said fine, fix it under warranty. Ford said, "no deal, you are over 50,000 miles and not covered under warranty any longer".

Now wait one minute! He was told by the Ford Service manager to leave it alone less then one year ago. Now they say too bad?? We have both spoken to various people at Ford Motors including the Head Customer Service Rep. that have told us, "too bad".

Needless to say the my father is now shopping for a new Dodge diesel.

What a joke, and too bad for Ford. They have laost another dozen people to Dodge because of poor service and a lesser product.

If your father in fact has it in writing that the dealer acknowledged the problem yet elected to "leave it alone" during the factory warranty, your father is eligible for AWA -- After Warranty Assistance.

There are a few different AWA programs Ford offers; P01, P05, and P07 are the 3 that pop to mind. The dealer service manager might be suprised if you mention those codes..... "How do you know about P05?" :-laf Each one is different, some have deductibles, some offer free powertrain warranties, etc. IMHO I'd ask for a P05 w/ the dealer eating the $100 deductible, which they will do, can do, and do quite often to 'fix' problems they create... .

I was a Warranty Admin for Ford Motor Company---the process can get to be a PITA but once the DSM -- District Service Manager, or FSE -- Field Service Engineer, hears about the situation I'm almost 100% sure his truck will be fixed for free. :) I don't know the DSM or FSE in Michigan but have a couple phone numbers around here someplace that I can dig up if you need them.

Sounds like the dealer is taking you for a ride on this one because they think they can get away with it. Trust me when I tell you that the people on the other end of Ford's customer service "helpline" aren't good for much more than telling you to look in the owner's guide and looking the phone number of a dealer in your area.

Keep working the dealer..... they'll fix it eventually.

well lets see, inferior product? mother inlaws 04. 5 cummins with less than 16k on it,prob 1= broke power mirror motor,2=flakeing silver paint,3=leaking water in cab at the cab lights,4= as of yesterday, powersteering pump went kaput. my 05 cummins with less than 6k on the clock, recall for front springs, clutch slave cylinder going out[leaks out]. dealer gets it thursday. dad inlaws o1 cummins, rear main leak, lift pump, throw out bearing, short in wire under dash, soon to need ball joints, truck has 70k on it and never leaves the pavement. grand dad inlaws 99 cummins, clutch, turbo, lift pump, ball joints, truck also never leaves pavement currently has 100k on it. brother inlaws 01 cummins,60k no probs. my o2 f350 7. 3, 70k no probs. my 97 f350, 7. 3 nearly 300k,water pump,2 clutches, glow plug controller, recall for air cleaner box,one set of brakes. my 92 dodge cummins, junk!,my 95 cummins better, but still had premature front end wear, sold at less than 80k. friend,if you think them dodges dont break, think again. the same applies for ford and gm. as to your problem,if the problem [possible]was written up at a earlier date,i would think you have some ground to stand on with getting the repair paid for by ford. .
