Foreign Embassy and political leader question

Sorry if this is regarded as a political topic, I wasn't sure.



I just watched "Sniper" and the plot is to send a sniper team into Panama to assassinate a future leader who is in a pre-arranged election. He is a drug lord and the political parties, though they say the election is a free election, it really is up to the rest of the political party to make him president for sure.



So anyway, my question is, if this were to happen, and a US air base or naval base was in the country, or an embassy also, like in the movie, what could this possible future leader do? Would he play it off and suck up to us, or try to get rid of us?
