Notice the small area added to front of bed. The 550s wheelbase is 3-4"s longer than 350. This is a serious hauler. and not for the fainthearted. I'm not trying to sell Fords but would like for Dodge to step up to the plate. This truck has about 18k GVW and 19. 5 wheels.

Too bad it's a 6. 0 Powerjoke... I went and looked at the 06's just to see how much these dambass's are paying for the pieces of sh#!'* and a $54,000 for a FX-4 4X4 F350 Dually is a expensive mistake... I bet that one is at least $60,000, huh?

Hello? DC? Anyone out there? If Ford can build a frame that's a little longer for a truck that has a relatively small target audience, I wish Dodge would do it too for the MC and do a long bed. On the other hand, Ford may not be building much of anything in a while  . Heard on the news this A. M. that DC is cutting 6000 jobs, but they are admin type positions.

Cost

It was just under $60k. I would consider this truck if Ford does make major improvements to the FlowerPoke... :-{} It was also extremely loud and road ruff. Expected for that GVW.

Well I wouldn't mind the rough ride, not one of those Dura Dud guy's, love my solid axle, but if I was a guy that needed a truck of that caliber and used it for a living hauling things form place to place, I bet Cummins would make a killin. I don't think that poeple that are counting on there things being at a certain place at a certain time would really like to hear that there load's not going to be there because my Turbo blew up, or injector's fouled/started leaking... I will say it's a pretty thing, but that doesn't get the job done... I have to be able to count on my truck.

Well, you guys have done a good job of explaining why I got rid of my Dodge 3500 (bombed to 425hp), and got this. I didn't pay near what this Ford costs (or a new MegaCab, for that matter), plus I no longer have to worry about overloading, under-braking, or a rough ride. The air-ride cab is like a cloud, plus the mileage with my trailer (24,000 loaded) is slightly better than the Dodge was. I get about 8. 4 mpg out of my N14 500 hp Cummins. The dodge (bombed to pull the weight) got 8. 1. So, if you want a truck to pull the heavy loads, you might consider this. There is becoming quite a following for the full-time RV crowd that tows really large travel trailers.

why does it look like the frame is sagging where the bed and cab meet? I have seen a lot of Fords and a few Chevy trucks that look like it is sagging at that same spot or is it just me? And for 60k they could at least put a hood liner to shut that god awful sounding bucket of bolts up a bit...

I used to deliver custom conversion vehicles, including Centurion and this four inch insert looks like their handiwork? Or is Ford putting a bed on the 550's now?

Robert

Ross, 1 thing... 8. 1 MPG ? What exactly are you towing? And you needed 425 HP to pull it?

C'mon...

This is a stock Dodge at around 29000. I doubt it gets only 8 MPG too.

No, I believe they are not doing this from the factory. I have a neighbor who has a 550 with the bed that was completed by the conversion company. The stock bed is modified to fit. He has the in bed fule tank, hence the filler door on the bedside is inoperable.

Patrick:

I have a large and heavy living quarters horse trailer. It is 33 feet long (floor length), and 42 feet overall. It weighs in at about 24,000 fully loaded with horses, water, hay, gear, fuel, etc.

My dodge was bombed with a big turbo, large injectors, heavy fueled box (TST Comp), air bags, exhaust brake, FASS, HD clutch, on & on. The truck as a 5 speed w/3. 55 gears, and would really get it. It would run mid - high 15's in the quarter, not fast, but not bad for a 2wd shifter truck (dually, too). I probably could have down sized the injectors, and picked up some mileage. In the early stages of my bombing, the truck actually got pretty good mileage with the old 275 hp "RV" injectors, but I got the bug and started upgrading. As many on this board will confess, there's no turning back, and certainly no backing down, once you start bombing!!!!

I had to drive the dodge really hard to keep up with interstate traffic. Plus, I NEVER had the stopping ability that I wanted. Now, I drive in a much more relaxed way. 75 mph in the Volvo with the trailer in tow feels like 55 did in the Dodge--it's effortless, quiet, and I don't feel like I'm unsafe in any way. Plus, my whole family has room in the truck, whereas in the the dodge, we were always cramped for room.

I hope you were not surprised...

Well considering that your trailer weight was 1k more than the trucks rated GCVW I hope that you were not surprised!

Sounds like a good change up. 24K on the trailer alone is pretty heavy!!!

I plan on hauling a 19K trailer but my truck weighs in under 7K. 26K total max. So probably 6000 lbs less than you. 6spd and 3. 55's and small diameter tires to keep the revs up a little. We will see how it handles it. Shopping for a PacBrake at the moment.

Hello MCrossley,

Get the PAC; it was the best addition I ever made to the truck. REALLY helped to slow things down.

People use their trucks around here. Actually I was surprised at how Well the truck handled the load. What do you use your truck for? Hauling a mocha latte?

In response Ross to your pulled response, I tow a 36' Triple Slide 5th wheel; Pallets of materials on occasion, my small trailer etc. etc. I also move trailers for my landlord all the time some have been up to 40' So no it does not tote around a mocha late as you implied; however you make a statement about how the truck performed with poor mileage and how much you had to put into it to make it pull the load that is why I made a fair and simple statement that you can not compare a class 8 semi with a pickup truck especially when you are loading the pickup with a trailer weight exceeding the GCVW by itself. It is not a fair comparison. I might as well say a Honda Ridgline just takes forever to get up to speed with my 16k 5th wheel that’s about how fair of a comparison we are making here. I was in no way was picking on you or making a statement against you but obviously you are a little more sensitive to the discussion.

Maybe the time has come to thin out the herd and get a smaller trailer.
