Well Anne helped me adjust my new California Budget, and it looks like one of my major expenses will be fuel... SO this is where my options were at: Trade in the cummins for a MBZ 240D stick shift for cheap and save on fuel and have all the money left over saved in the bank for those peske MBZ repairs, invest in a greasel.com or equivilent system for burning free WVO... . OR De-tune the Cummins as an experiement for optimum fuel mileage (currently 15-16mpg)to attempt some penny-pinchage... let's go with that option first.

So I have sinned in these ways...

-Starwheel found in glovebox and reinstalled, set back to stock setting...

-Stock fuel pin rotated to stock fueling

-Smoke screw disabled

-Full Fuel Screw turned . 5 turns Counter Clockwise from stock settings :--) (YES, that is 1/2 turn OUT/lower from/than stock)

-Idle set to a smmoth and buttery ~850 RPMs

-Retain BHAF W/Outerwears & 3" DP going to 4" Straight Pipe All the way back.

-3200 GSK kit still installed

-Timing advance retained about 1/8" (maybe a tad less)

-High Idle screw disabled.

From the initial observations I noticed smoother startup, Smooth quiet idle, better throttle control (streetability) More positive shifts, more rpm drop after shifts, noticable power ramp-up when boost builds and afc diaphram/fuel pin is depressed, highway speeds still easily attainable, max boost 22lbs (previously 28-29. 5) No smoke to speak of at any time, slight haze at WOT although it was dark and it could have been water mist. :{ Cruising temps remained stable 550 Deg @ 60mph. Boost between 3-5 psi.

I filled up tonight and will top it off on the way to work tomorrow to begin experiement to see what max mpg can be. Also have canopie which is about 1. 5 ft higher than cab sailing out in the wind that will be removed/sold very soon. New Toyo H/T open Country tires size 265/75 r16 load range E. (highway tread) The good is that It is still fun to drive and I will not feel bad mashing the pedal when needed, as the afc & max fueling will be kept in check. I love the VE pump, in it's adjustability. I spent about 5-10 minutes (lots of practice, believe me) changing the above settings, and then took a test drive. No plates to change, just screws to turn!! Best of both worlds. Reliability/simplicity of mechanical injection and semi on-the-fly Adjustibilty of Electronic injection. Also the turbo sound is ever more pronounced now that it is not out boomed by a louder, greater fueled exhuast. Most of all I feel good as the durability of the engine and drivetrain will be maximized at these low duty settings... Cool thing is that if I have a change in budget, I can turn the settings back to bomb central in less than 10 minutes! I LOVE THIS DINOSAUR OF A TRUCK. Oo.

Well, it doesn't look like any "forgiveness" is needed... all you did is go from one side of the church to the other... . just a change in yer view is all... . :D:D

Slow your truck down, don't idle. Run 60-65mph on highway. . or less if you want. Try not to idle much at all. Don't be the first to 35-40mph from a dead stop. Ease into the throttle, be grandpa from 0-40mph city. Injectors do the most for fuel mileage. You might have them checked for spray pattern and pop pressures. That or get yourself a set of custom stock flow edm's:D.

Go with the grease..... I'd go with the Frybrid kit, they have the 2nd gen ready to go and a 1st gen coming soon. If you got the benz you would still need a grease kit :) make sure you get a turbo benz though.
