Honda vs. Champion

We were finally able to take our, new to us, fifth wheel camper out the first time. We have an Army Corps of Engineers Dam and Res. local to us. We can camp with electric and water for $12 a night. It's called the Kerr Scott Lake and Reservoir in Western, NC. Very well maintained and worth looking into if you are in the area.

I tow with my 2013, CTD with the 6'-4" bed. I installed the B&W turnover hitch and the B&W Companion Sliding hitch. With the hitch in the forward position, my fifth wheel would hit the cab of the truck in a tight turn.

When I got to the campground, I thought it would be a good idea to slide the hitch to the rear for the extra room. No problems in the campground. I set up the camper and unhitched. We stayed for two weeks. I'm a building contractor so the campground was closer to my jobsite at the moment.

When we left on 8/1, I hitched the camper, broke camp and pulled the camper home. I never even thought about the hitch being in the rear position. I drove no faster than 45mph for about 10 miles.

I never want to be unsafe. What's everyone's thoughts on this?

You are OK with the hitch in the rear position. I have towed that way serval times over the 11 years that I had a manual sliding hitch. What happens in most case is the pin weight is moved about 14 inches to the rear from the towed [position. Which can in some case can cause the front axle to lose some transfer weight by the pin load, light steering feedback. But and this is my very humble opinion, the Cummins engine is so, heavy that the dodge/Ram pick-up trucks do not notice this as much as a gas engine truck would. I am not saying to always do this but it can be done.
I have since switched to a Demco Glide which is an automatic slider hitch. I did this last year when my manual slider hitch was causing me issues by not releasing to the maneuver position when required.

Sorry, can't help with the 5'er question but we did take a look see at that camp, if you want to be on or next to a lake very nice and looked well run.

It was part of our day trip visits, Wilkesboro, N. Wilkesboro and many other points but folks if you don't need a lake the gem of a camp IMHO in this neck of the woods is a few miles NE of there, Stone Mt. no not in GA it's in NC. Its in a valley just a few miles S of the BRPW and it's my favorite state park.

Please, don't tell anyone anyone about Stone Mt. in NC, tell them to find Stone Mt. park in GA somewhere.
