I looked for the original thread about Chinese tires, couldn't find it...



My parents wanted to retrieve their boat today, inspected the 9-month old trailer tires to find DEEP weather checking. Chinese tires, all of 9 months old...



We took the original USA-made GYs as spares... they are checked, but they are also over 25 years old. We made the 50 mile trip OK, but it was disappointing to see tires bad with only 100miles on them total.



So, be forewarned... CHECK YOUR TIRES BEFORE EVERY TRIP!



FWIW, I fully intend to change my utility trailer to 17" LTs to rid it of the 15" bias-ply LR D tires... I run car or LT tires on all my trailers except this one.

My last Toyo 285-70-17's were made in China. :{ My new "75" series are made in Japan. I thought Toyo had a brand new plant here. I'm buying the same tire next time but I just wish they came out of the new plant here.

Pretty soon we might be able to tell by price where a tire is made because of the 30% surcharge that Obama just put on ALL tire imports from China only. Not for Chinese tires and not trying to make this a political discussion. It just doesn't make any sense to me to p**s off a country that holds over 40% of our country's debt with a trade war on their cheap tires.



Let the consumer decided, not the government! If China starts backing away from financing our governments drunken sailor spending we'll be in a world of hurt. Might require a change to a "one world" currency

I think you'll be happy with the new shoes Clark. I had complete confidence in them on that Hwy 101/1 cruise we just completed. Those are some sharp curves and straight down drops. Luckily we were heading north as my wife would have never survived heading south. Lassen too has more of the same but only a few guardrails. Where do you go to for service and tires,Ukiah? I've got 30,000 miles on mine with poor maintenance from the friend I bought them from. I'll safely get another 7500 miles out of them.

Hi Dave, so far I am VERY happy with the tires. I actually got them right here at the Elk Garage. He normally sells Coopers and Hankook, but has special ordered in for me Michelins and now the Toyos. His prices are more then competative with any of the Ukiah or Fort Bragg stores, though sightly higher then internet delivery plus intsallation, mostly because if you buy internet/out of state, there is no sales tax. In any case, I am happy to keep my dollars local whenever possible.



In terms of treadwwear, weren't those tires that you are running pushed down in Baja for awhile before you bought them. I would LOVE to see at least 30k out of these, but I'll just have to see.



PS--if you do your N. Ca. trip again, be sure to call when you are actaually passing through Elk (DON'T blink:-laf) and we'll be sure to hook up for coffee and chat. Sorry that I couldn't get up to Little River, just too busy.

It amazes me what people are willing to go cheap on! My life and my family's life can be lost because someone is willing to buy cheap Chinese tires. Go cheap on something that is only going to affect you and your family if you want. My life is more valuable than that. Les Schwab is the last place that you want to buy a quality tire. People brag about the 50,000 miles they got out of their tires from them for their Ram. I just look at them and say for the same price at Costco my Michelins went 100,000 miles. They have good "service" but that is it. I guess that some get off on being met at the car door and being asked "what can I help you with". It is worth it to buy high quality, they will back up their product if there is a problem. I have seen Good Year replace a blown tire and the damage to my Dads trailer no questions asked. Discount Tire, Costco and Wingfoot dealers are all good places to buy a quality truck or trailer tire.

No! These were US made G rated tires. They had problems with a series of these. They corrected the problem, the point is they backed up their product paid for the damage. Since replacing the original tires my Dad has not had a single problem with many thousands of miles in hot conditions. Yes Goodyear makes POS Chinese tires to compete with the other junk that comes from overseas for the people that only look at price not quality. I detect a bit of sarcasm in your post, I want people to think about what they are buying because it does affect others on the road!

If you read on the HitchHiker (NuWa) owner's forum you'll see that Goodyear LRG tires are still blowing and damaging trailers. Many HitchHiker owners with the heavier Champagne models are paying the price to retrofit or order their new tandem axle Champagnes with 17. 5" wheels and tires instead of 16"s to get away from the Goodyear tire failures.

Unfortunately, GY is the only American tire manufacturer who makes an LT tire in LRG. If Michelin made an XPS Rib in LRG the problem wouldn't exist.

Yep, there was a bit! But I've had it with Goodyear. I'm down in Texas and looked at a set of Goodyear 265/75-17E with a manufacture date of 4908 (Forty ninth week of 2007) just2a years old, Made in China that had a tread separation. They were on a '07 Dodge 3500 pulling a 38' Montana 5th wheel. Did some damage to the trailer. The owner is replacing all with Michleins.

Funny thing is that the truck was purchased new and when, after a year and buying this new trailer, replaced the origional Michlein's with "good American made Goodyears"



So much for thinking!

I had to replace 15 GoodYear ST 225 75 15 tires for seperations & they were all US made. I do not run GY any more. And for all you people who say that you can go to 16's two tire people tried but they rub the wheel well as the axle goes up & down. I now have a set of Damnon's & I called their factory as to speed restrictions of 65 mph & they told me they are rated for what ever the highway posted speed is. We will see, so far I have driven 65-75 & have not had any problens with about 10000 miles on them & some really hot weather plus I run nitrogen in them also. Knock on wood.
