Reading some of the posts here and the fact that my 03 had dropped in mpg I decided to check and then clean my air filter. The filter (airaid) had been on 15,000 + mi. I ran the filter under kitchen faucet ( girlfriend was out ) and found bugs, bugs, and more bugs and then something that looked looked like osama's turban. Mileage is right back up to 18. 5 mpg @ 75, checked by hand.

I have the AFE. How often is a sensible time to clean? relying on the sensor seems questionable. I have maybe 8K and it is black... . but the filter gauge does not register.

Don't bother with the filter monitor. EVen with a clean filter the first time I step on the skinny pedal that thing goes to %90 used and makes it seem that the filter is dirty. Just keep an eye on it.
