Copper, Multi Layer, or Stock Head Gasket?

Has anyone tried a T-66???

i found over 3 miles per gallon. i could not figure out why my truck would get 13. 5 mpg no matter what i did. i looked for leaks but never found one until i saw the sensor for my fuel p gauge was a little damp i thougt no way was the guage leaking that much fuel it would have to be all over the place. there was oil under my truck but i thougth it was all coming from my powersteering pump. Boy was wrong pulled the sensor off and put some teflon tape on the threads and put it back on well i went from 13. 5 to over 16mpg... . :) wow i am happy i got over 400miles on my last tank. HECK YA. I pass this info on b/c others may want to check for damp connections b/c you may be losing more fuel than it looks like.

Fixing Leak

CC thats great that you found the source of your leak. I may be wrong here, but have heard diesel fuel an teflon tape don't mix well. It may take a little time, but will eat the tape up an start leaking again. Unless you used some kind of tape made for that. If I'm wrong I'm sure some one else will chime in.

What about loctite thread sealant, or "gorilla snot" we've used that stuff for years on small/big block v-8's. Its not like regular loctite, it's just made by them.

The main problem with teflon tape in fuel systems is little bits of it getting loose and causing problems with injection pumps and injectors.

My guess is that your mileage went up because you stopped air from getting into the system. to have a 3mpg leak it would have to be huge. Does the truck run better?

Permatex #2 works well.

The deal with teflon tape is diesel fuel will still weep past it, slowly, but it does. Not sure that it will actually eat the teflon, but as stated above the tar like permatex is made for sealing fuel fittings.

I saw a mechanic at the local truck stop using regular plumbers pipe thread dope or compound, when asked he said never had a problem been doing this sense he was a diesel machanic over 40 years.

I'm thinking not on my rig, what do you guys think.

I have used regular white teflon liquid or paste for years on diesel systems, everything from 1/8" to 2" pipes, and never had any problems at all, I have had problems with teflon tape leaking on diesel.
