It sounds like your son bought a good one. Someone may have bought it with dreams of retirement and pulling a big fifth wheel around the country and the economic crash caused job loss, depleted retirement fund, or who knows?

Some probably buy a manual six speed dually and then realize it is a truck, not ideal for driving to tanning salons and Starbucks. Who cares? Someone else's loss, your son's gain.

I agree. Im really curious what went wrong with the clutch though. I hope the turbo doesn't have any issues. I guess if it does the "AE" would be the one to replace it.

It is not real surprising. Clutches and dual mass flywheels in the G-56 trucks are more problematic than the conventional flywheel assemblies used with NV-5600.

If you do a search here in TDR you'll read lots of reports of early failures. Some claim they're fine but there are too many failure reports to dismiss the problem. Southbend Clutch has developed a conventional flywheel and replacement clutch kit to change them over. Those have also been discussed here in TDR pages.
