Ok I just wanted to check with fellow owners here on this

I found a 1998 12 Valve Quad Cab, shortbed, 4X4 and manual with 140K miles

the dealer wanted 15K but I talked them down to 14K

would this be worth it? or do u think the miles might be a bit high or I could be in for some trouble

thanks

Carl

The milage wouldn't scare me off. Its still a baby if its been maintained properly. I would say the price is on the higherend for that year. Does it look like its been taken care of?

I just paid $11,200 for a 97 Reg cab, 4x4, auto with 103k miles... the truck was SPOTLESS. The asking price was $14,600

I'd be willing to bet you could get it for $12,500 with a little smart negotiation... margins are high on used vehicles.

The truck def looks like its been maintained, plus I get a mechanical inspection bill of health kind of thing from the dealer... I tried pricing it on NADA and the truck actually came to about 15,500 and change... .

Besides I figured to the rare combination of short bed and quad cab along with stick and 4wd...

Although I personally would not pay that much, it is a sought after truck and 14k doesn't seem unreasonable to me. I'm sure there are a ton of guys on here that would pay that in a second.

If it's clean, well maintained and well optioned $14k is a pretty decent deal IMO. I paid $9k for a 351,000 mile '96 and thought I did OK. Not a great deal but not bad either. It had a new toolbox, 4" exhaust and AFE intake system.

Test drive it and get it good and hot, tehn wot it a few times on hills, to test if the injection pump is ok, if it dies and sputters, might need a pump, like our 95k mile truck needed, these pumps arent cheap, the doors rust, the steering/front end sucks, the blocks have been know to crack, dowl pins come loose, 5 speed come apart, seat covers fall apart, the dana 60s are the least desirable dana 60 made, but other than that the are an ok truck if you dont mind crappy tire life, fuel guages that dont work, moldy smelling a/c/heater and leaking transfer case output seals. I just speak from experience so dont listen to me. Btw people can ask what ever price the want for something, and some idiot will usually pay the price.

Well I have a 98 12Vquad 2WD long bed with 456,000+ miles so I wouldn't be concerned with the mileage..... damn I thought mine wasn't worth much these days... . I guess I could get at least $5. 00 for it LOL I wouldnt pay 14 for it but12 to 13 would be a great price around here.

2 years ago I paid 13. 9K$ for a 98, SB, QC 4x, with 115,000 miles. I havent regretted it at all.

go look in the TDR classified and see how much 98 12V are going for. 14 wont look that bad to you after you do that... .
