Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Found a great oil filter wrench

I went to my Napa store today and picked up a NEAT oil filter plier. It is made by KD tools and is adjustable to fit filters from 2 inch to 5 inch. They look like a pair of Channellocks but the jaws are curved. They run about $28. 00 and well worth it. The tool is Napa service tool # 3508

I think the only time I would use it would be the 1st time. I never use one. I just snug it with my hand so it will come off by hand. I have never found the use for them.

I have an even better wrench. The stealer! I have lifetime free oil change (Of course, if I do have to change it some time I have one of those too. Before I pull filter I poke hole in bottom an let it drain in pan. Saves a lot of mess. Oo.

I like the auto parts version, when it slips it slams the backside of your left hand into the clamp bolt on the turbo

I use Snapon part number FWA62121. I get the filter loose from under the truck with a long extension. I've had filters that I couldn't get loose with the pliers. I used to use pliers and use a strap wrench when I couldn't get it with the pliers. Now I just use the claw I haven't had one yet that I couldn't get off.

The only problem with the stealer lifetime oil change is sometimes it tends to include bent radiator fins.

I use one of those rubber strap wrenches like ol' Bob Villa hucks for Sears. They work great and fit anything, and are cheap to boot.

on my tahoe, i can not prefill the filter. . it is mounted sideways above my front driveshaft. i can barely fit my hand in there to get it on/off and it's hard to get the filter in or out of there. . never have had a problem with that though. when i start it up, i don't do anything more than idle until i have proper pressure. .

I would tend to think however the bigger the filter the worse it is to install dry because the filter has to fill up before the oil pressure comes up. The Tahoe probably only holds a half a quart or so, while the Cummins holds a full quart. With this in mind, I guess it's even more important for the Ford folk because there's hold up wards of 2 quarts.

And it won't slip! I gave the small one to wife, so she does her own jars lids However, while at BIGLOTS They have a set of smaller ones that will also do the job for $6. 00. Got them too. Put one in RV and 1 in tool box. But how come you need so much power; just snug it up by hand

Side filters can be filled part way by putting some oil in and watching it be absorbed into the filter Medea fill till it won't take any more with out spilling out pour any extra back in container and you will not have a long dry time as it will be filled faster .
