a friend of mine bought a 96 with a bad motor . he found one out of a 93 how much stuff will i have to changed . his truck has 330,000 on it and is a stick . the donor has 140,000 on it and is auto . thanks andy

Are you sure that's the best choice? A '93 would be a 1st Gen truck, with a rotary pump and no intercooler, right? Why go through the trouble, and the HP loss too?

Joe

why not use a first gen motor basicly same as 96? but different pump mine feels fine running down the road .

thanks for the replies but i still need to know what i can use on the 96 off of the 93 . i know i can use the long block but what about things like injectors , pump , turbo and front cover . if i have change alot of stuff he will just have to find another motor . thanks

I don't have what your looking for, but as a suggestion I would head over to the 1st gen forums and search through there for the conversion to P-pump or something similar. From a quick read in there is seems like a few have done this already and the knowledge and ideas should transfer to what you are looking to do.

Also, just an FYI, 91. 5 to 93 first gens are intercooled and can be made to put out a respectable amount of power depending on what you want to do with it. Just don't ask for a TST plate for one :)

Are you guys going to go through the donor motor ? or just swap ?
Sounds like your swapping , haven't done it with those yrs. but like said earlier the pump is different , the injectors , not sure about the head maybe just the injectors , that may be the biggest / hardest to change out .
For the rest I would think that almost everything that bolts on to the longeblock needs to be changed , thats comin in most car/truck yr to yr swaps .
