Was ready to drive 690 miles one-way to get it, but it was sold:(

It was a '98 Quad, 5-speed, 2WD with 34,000 miles! (tha's right-not 134,000), topper and new rubber. I didn't even find out if it was 12 or 24.

I have another one located with low miles but it's 1100 miles away:--)

I've got 132 car dealers looking and I'm going through the classifieds of every paper in every adjoining state presently. My LD phone bill is going to be a humdinger this month-and maybe next.

Surely there's one more out there. ;)

Wade Try www.autotrader.com . Found mine on there last year. You can search from 25 miles from you to any distance. But be prepaired to do a lot of reading. It`s also a good idea to only look at the ones that have pictures,or at least give full discriptions. A lot of the others tend to be bait and switch. {just sold it but I have this one}. Also try www.tessone motors.com they are nice people and Jeff will treat you right. They`re in lockport ILL. 45mins south of Chicago.

Wade,

Other than the topper and 5-speed, sounds like the one I found this past September with 34000 miles on it. I didn't see where you are, but you might check with Auge Dodge in Belen NM. They usually have a few of our trucks sitting on their lot at pretty decent prices.

the search

I went through 474 ads on Yahoo alone the other day. I've been through all the big-name "cars.com" type places. I keep re-searching them, and looking for different sites. "Carhopper" is where I found the truck I wanted.

I'm in TN--Tucumcari is about 1200 miles for me. Which I may have to do, but 500-600 would be much nicer.

The lower the truck mileage, the farther I'll drive for it.

I'm searching South, West, Mid-west. I search nationwide and then select by state. That's because all the engines cut off at 500 miles.

Right now, in another window, I'm going through 250 "Dodge" ads 25 at a time, to find out if there are any trucks in there.

Keep posting smallish classified sites, I'll search anything. :p

I feel your pain...

I searched all last summer for my truck so I know how hard it is to find an ext. cab, 2wd, manual. I found it 360 mi. away - it had 97,000 mi. on it but it was very clean. I bought it and love it. :D

Made an offer today!

Maroon ("Cranberry" might be the DC name for it)2000, 6-speed:D with low miles.

Hopefully will finalize the deal and go get it tomorrow. 691 miles.

Didn't really want a 24v, but this is one good-looking truck--suppose I'll just have to suffer with it.

;)

I'm ready to order guages and start the Bombing!

More news as this story develops. :D :D :D

Now to sleep?Oo.

Gibbson truck center and ? ( an other truck place) are located in Sanford FL .

They deal in late model trucks. Usually have fords and Dodges.

They are also very expensive. :{ . I've seen their adds!:--)

Should be able to find their adds in the truck trader for the south east area.

I don't know anything about their reputation.

Gots me a truck now.

I'll save you all the gory details now:--)

but look for them later.

Short story: Found a truck on Ebay. NEVER thought I'd buy a vehicle on ebay. Anyhoo, found this truck on Friday. Made offer on Fri nite, Made second offer on Sat morning. Made Deal.

Me and Dad jumped into his '95 2500 4X4 CTD and haul A$$ to TX- 'bout 700 miles out there to Dallas.

Got there last night late, had a handful of tacos, a Shiner Bock, and a drive-out tag by little after midnight:D :D :D

The truck is absolutely as described at:

http://cgi.netscape.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/ebayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1834765983&r=0&t=0

Check it out!

I got to put 786 miles on it-95% since 8 this morning. Kinda tired... am I rambling... must sleep soon... FULL LONG STORY TOMORROW... Oo.

could sleep in the truck... nah, that'll happen soon enough. ;) :p

For those that don't look at the pretty pictures on ebay: Maroon Ext-Cab 2000 2X4 6-speed with a TX cow catcher.

She's a beaut. :D

The Rest of The Story

Took off in Dad's 95 4x4 auto-3. 54 axle, which pulls a load just fine. But I hadn't had it on the highway in a while. Not much after 80.

Arkansas=crappy roads.

What if? I don't like it? Find a serious flaw?...

Texas--hey look smooth roads!

Texas--hey look lotsa state police:eek:

Got to the lot about 11pm. No truck?

Salesman shows up driving it. So I crawl all over and through it, under hood, under chassis, in the bed. Looks good:D

I drive it:D :D

Sign papers, find tacos, motel, cold beer, and bed(with owners manual in hand).

Driving back---GOOD GAWD WHAT POWER!!!

Couln't find a PowerSmoke anywhere;) I just can't get over how this sucker drives. I knew that Mom's 24 was stouter than Dads 12. But this puppy is like a beer I used to drink-- XXX STOUT.

I looked like this :D everytime we hit a hill or I needed to kick it for any reason. Power Corrupts they say.

Oh yeah, back to the state of AR. Dad's fuel gauge doesn't work---guess what. He lost fuel pressure on the ramp between 30 and 430 North at Little Rock. :rolleyes

So (after I lost him in the mirrors) I went and got a tank and 5 gallons of fuel. Came back down 430 to 30, then exit, then back on, and around and such and there he is.

You know the drill.

5 gallons wasn't enough. I went and got another tank -be danged if I'm going to make 3 fuel runs- and came back with 10 gallons of fuel. Pour it all over the truck and my feet and the highway. Prime, crank, crack, repeat as necessary. 2 hours later we're in route again.

Me stinkin up my new truck!

I finally got cleaned up and we got back. Everybody loves the truck:)

I'm going to do the 36-mo service and all the other things that may have been overlooked (no records).

Otherwise planning guages and ham radio installations. I'm going to wait a bit on the comp--my license is in serious jeopardy right now at 235HP. :p

21 MPG too!

[had to kill smilies in long post]

:{

Forgot to say that I got 21 MPG on the first 1/2 tank. At 75-85 MPH all-day-long and many ventures into 90+ land. ;)

Almost back to Nashville area when the only other 2WD Cummins 3/4 I saw on trip ripped by us. He was running 90-100. STAY BOOSTED!:p

BTW, where do I get more TDR stickers? I'm dealing with 3 trucks here. ;)

Nice truck Wade. I too have a Dark Garnet Red (like yours) truck, and the color gets a lot of looks here in Houston. Folks down here buy black, red, grey, blue, but not many like ours. Too bad you can't keep those coveted "Texas Truck" tags on it.

I noticed in the pic of the engine bay that the camera strap was in the way of the air filter. Does it have a stock one? If so, email me offlist... I may have something you may be interested in.

BTW, this is my truck:

Oh, but I can!

One the front anyway. TN doesn't care what you run on the front bumper.

Didn't pick the color really. I was all set to buy a white one in FL, but it was gone. I like this color more than white though.

This configuration is so hard to find I just said "no" to colors I don't like--Driftwood, Brown/Tan/Silver (any combo), etc.

I like Black, Blue, White, and Red--this just happened to be a variation of red. I've only seen two "me" trucks so far--meeting yourself coming down the road:confused: And of course they were 4X4.

Oh yeah, the kickin'est color I've seen so far is the 3/4 black with red on top.
