Yesterday I dropped the engine oil pan in my '01 to change the seal, an found this laying next to the drain plug. It has a MP stampeded on the top of it.

(penny is about the same size)

Sorry for the quality of pics camera phone.

I searched in the block trying to find anything out of place or damaged an nothing I could see out of the ordinary. No problems with the truck what so ever. Just trying to figure out if this is a major worry for me or not.

So can I take it this could have just been a assembly flaw? Possibly the engine was pieced together on a monday morning or friday evening? Once again gave a thorough look over underneath an nothing jumped out at me. I believe I'm just going to go ahead an put the truck back together unless anyone has a good answer for me to do other wise.

I don’t have any input on yours but I thought I would share my story; a few weeks ago I took off my oil pan too, and found the KDP in the bottom. I was very happy (one less thing to worry about) and showed it to my wife who just didn’t share my same enthusiasm. lol

Could be the plug that is removed to accomudate the Enviroguard kit. On the edge of the block below the VP pump is a plug you remove to fit the hard line return into the block. When I installed my kit I had to push the plug into the oil pan area. Worth a look.

Is it possible that it's a plug that was pushed in for the turbo oil return to the pan? You know a plug to keep stuff out of the pan as the engine is moving along until the turbo is installed? Never know.

Joe MC I believe you are correct. Before I installed the pan I did take the plug, an set it up to the turbo oil return line on the inside of the block. It did appear to be the same size. Thank you for all the help folks now i just need to find some time to get the trans back in.

Jason - Great! I think I heard about this some time ago here - happened to someone else that had their engine out and found same in their pan. Glad if gave you some piece of mind and that my memory is still working . . .
