Well, long time since I last posted but I sure have been doing a lot of reading and searching. It took me days to make up my mind about certain important topics. First of all, thanks to all TRD members and their input. I am saving several thousands of dollars over the life of my truck in maintenance costs. My 15K service was around $600. 00, all fluids and filters. When I read how easy it was by the instructions on the posts, I decided to do it myself from now on. (Wait until my service manager get wind of this! It will ruin his day. ) I have moderate mechanical knowledge/ability and have sucessfully rebuilt a racing Pontiac 455 for a 79 T/A I used to have a long time ago. I bought the Geno's 4/2/1 and already installed the fuel/water filter, piece of cake, zero water in fuel. I used a tall glass beer mug to collect the fuel. I bought the metal oil filter wrench and will change oil every 3-4K. I've decided on Val. Premium Blue for engine and Royal Purple for gears. I also bought the Pensoil Syncromesh for the gear box before I found the RP dealer close to my house. A few quick questions / comments.
1) The prefilter on the Fleetguard air filter is really cheep, thin foam. The Mopar had more of an interwoven-fiberglass looking mesh deal. Any thoughts as to the difference in performance vs price. I saw some type of deal on e-bay for Mopar A/F's.
2) Royal Purple makes specific MTF. Can I use some of the 5-gallon worth of 75W-90 for the 6-speed or would that not be proper and could potentionally have warranty issues. ($140. 00 for 5-gals. )
3) I heard a TRD member using "green or blue" locktight on diff. pan bolts as a precaution. Does that sound ok or how about anti-sese on the bolt threads? Thank you in advance.
