a couple a weeks ago I said I lost my engine, well now I know why . It wasn't burnt pistons as a few thought it's a broken crank shaft , right in the side of the rod journal before number six rod journal . it caused the piston to scrape shavings of the skirt , eat the side of the bearing up but the rod bearing still had babbitt on it when I took the cap off. got another engine a 1551 cpl which is a 190 hp and 475 torque. can someone tell me what plate to use to bring it to 600 ft lb torque? does anyone think the added weight of the triple lock torque converter might have some bearing on this?

dunno about the extra weight, but since you have the engine out, it would be well worth it to investigate the coolant bypass option at the back of the engine. It provides a loop for the coolant to quickly cool #6 cyl, which sounds to be your weak point. .

i`m sure a search here will turn up lots. .

good luck

thanks for your insight , I'll keep you informed on what I find . I'm also going to Cummins, this is an unusual happening for a highly reliable engine with an automatic especially

The 190 is a medium duty engine and most likely a lower gov speed. You may want to use your original pump for more performance friendly calibration.

well I thought you would like to know . I wrote Cummins and told them about the death of my motor . they referred me to my Chrysler dealer who warrantied the engine originally . so no help from them. oh , well I didn't expect any from them anyhow. well let's hear it guys , I do haul heavy and it's taken it's toll , I'm on my 3rd transmission and now getting my second motor this old dodge has been a ________ or a __________ . you fill in the blanks.

need some help fellas , is a 96 crankshaft the same as a 01 crank both being standard ? I'm looking at a 2001 crankshaft.

An '01 crank will have a tone ring on it, the other question would be if the front end of the crank where the damper bolts on is the same. Would probably be safer to get a '94-'98 12V crank.
