Yep. Found these on a shelf in a fellow's shop. I recognized 'em from 80ft, so he was impressed. He knew they didn't make 'em anymore, so I paid for em. The tops have shrunk a little, and don't quite fit the lowers. He said they'd been in a drawer for over 10 years, and he set them out to get to something. I'm not sure what to do the make 'em fit better, I'm thinking set the uppers out in the sun and the lowers in the fridge, then see if they'll fit together a little better, and maybe stretch the uppers out... ... .

I'm gonna keep one for sure.

Here's some more pics of them,

One of the casting numbers on the bottom of the base.....

One on the dash of my '93 where it will go... ...

Someone asked me if these were the ones sold by Bank's... . I have no idea. I found them on a guys shelf, knew what they fit, and wouldn't let go of them until I was in the truck headed home... ... Anyone else know anything about them?

Did you ask him what else he had lying around the shop?

If he had four of those, there's no telling what else he might have.

I found all kinds of things. He had several Ve pumps, some turbos, driveshafts, springs, trucks... ... I asked about lots of stuff. He's got some 2wd trannies, some FL-70 pullouts, low miles, and a G56 2wd transmission... ... Lots of generators. One gen set had a turboed 460 Ford powerplant in it!! Nice! He's got an '04-5? Quad cab with 198k on it, short bed, 4x4, red, super clean. I think he wanted $16. 5k for it... ... a '98 2wd quad cab w/330k miles, 5 spd, I think he wanted $4000 for... ... . Lots and lots of parts laying all over the place, stuffed in filing cabinets, on shelves on two stories. Took me awhile, but I rumaged through all I could. I got a 2wd auto transmission w/convertor that had 48k miles on it for $425. He had a 4 guage cluster, and another 3guage pod, but he wanted to keep one of each..... just in case he ever came across a nice truck to fix up..... I had a flash-forward of 40yrs to see what I will look like at that age!!:-laf

I'd think about making a mold from those gauge pods. .

And cast them with what? Fiberglass and resin? I don't have a way to inject plastic... ... I've been down the mold road with our first gens. No one thinks there's a market for them... ... BAH!! I'm up for suggestions, though.

They look exactly like mine, which BTW came from Banks. Now if there was a way to do a left side "reverse" casting you would have a 6 gauge set.

Bob

WEllllll, the reverse casting is the ones used '94-02... ... the uppers, anyway: I got some of those, too..... the lower would be all you really needed. I was looking at contouring one for a '94 to fit the '93 prior to finding these..... :D

I guess I shouldn't mention the 4 guage pods facing from the right, I got without bases, should I?!? (I was thinking using a good piece of wood, a planer, and a good belt sander to contour it to the dash... ... )

You evil man. #@$%!
I can't believe you with-held information like that!

Just for that, you can't think about a 1st gen for 1 hour! :D

On a side note...
Back when I had my first first gen, I wanted one of these so bad. The next year when i finally had the money, they had stopped making them.

I really don't know what to do about the bases for the 4 guage pods... ... the contoured wood is sounding good at the moment... ... a belt sander would go a long way in shaping it to the dash... ... and I could potentially move it to the left some, so I'm not looking too far away from the center stripe.....

Ohhhh, decisions, decisions..... Boost and EGT are a given, but then what?!? transmission/rear dual guage, and then a dual air guage? Or an outside/inside temp guage and intake air temp guage? Hmmm, the dual air guage would be nice for the tanks on my air horns, as one's for general air pressure at the rear ports, and the other for the horns... ... ... or do I go with the triple guage pod and use the transmission temp guage, and go for a separate guage for air pressure????

HEY!! Be nice or I'll post pictures!!

You dirty bum!!! This is just low! You score parts like this and dont even call, email, or PM me to rub in what you found!? #@$%!

Just low! :-laf

Anyhoo, some background.

Yes, those were available from Banks. The manufacturer was USGear out of I believe WI. Last they had them in stock was around 2005-2006. Even at that point they had so little demand they were trying to clear stock.

They were available in 3,4 and 5 pod configs. They looked like this:

3 Pod:

4 Pod:

/webdata/photopost/data/500/P1000335.JPG#ad

USGear did not seem to have any interest in continuing production of more pods but with stock getting low, maybe they would be interested in a group buy?

Either way HH, if you want to get rid of any LMK. I am always open for pods. We all know I have a guage fetish. :D

Now about these reverse pod things..... Are these just reverse pods normally mounted on the roof or are these first gen specific pods? I am lost. Need pics. Let me say now if it is first gen specific parts that go on the roof or something cool like that, I am willing to sell body parts for it. :D

Hey, I started a new thread in the 1st gen section!! I didn't PM anyone, due to the fit they had. I wanted to be straight up with everyone that they weren't perfect! But where else you gonna find 'em?

Think they still have the molds? and would do a limited run?

Umm, comparing the 4 guage pods, the reverse ones I have are for the '94-02. The uppers are a mirror image of the 89-93, just angled to the right for left hand placement, mounting on top of the dash against the pillar. A base would have to be made for the '89-93, or modified from the '94+. I've been going to compare, but it's been raining and I've been working. The '85 was alive a few hours. I guess the lift pump quit, as it ran out of diesel sitting there. I put 12-15gal in the tank, so I know it didn't burn all that..... I was gonig to move it to my big barn, but it quit about 10 ft from the gates..... not happy. :( I pulled it in with the 4 wheeler to keep the rain off it (and all the crap in the back!).

Anyway, I'll try to get some pics of the 2nd gen pod on the dash of the '93 to see what's involved with modifying it... ... Have you tried that yet?

As a side note, you really need to put two captians chairs in there, open up the center section, move the shifter back about two feet, and install you a driver facing console on the transmission hump for all your gauges..... works good in the KW. An air-shifted auxilary box would be nice while you're there, too.....

I doubt they would have scrapped them. Trick would be to speak to the right person and how many could we get together to make pulling them, cleaning them, running them worth while for them? I am all for trying though!

No. I have not tried that. But the sound of a 1st gen lefty pod is enough to get me excited enoguh to pee myself!!!

Yes, get on them there pics. :D

You just decribed the W350. :D

Four Guage pod in '93, Left side

Umm, I think I may be on to somethings here... ..... a little work on the lower section that goes to the pillar, and this has great promise. This is a 4 guage pod for a '94-02, sitting on the dash of my '93. The lower lines match almost perfect, except the rear portion where it runs down to the pillar... ... I'm thinking a small piece of thin PVC, half-piped to cover wires? Or maybe a propane torch to heat it and form it down to the dash a little better. The only daylight between 'em is there where the wires come in!!!

BSchwarzli? You're the guage pod professor..... comments?

You could always mate several pods into a guage pod that goes all the way across the dash. That would give you 10 plus guages:eek::D:D You would have to double stack them to get any where near Roberts - you would still be short of Roberts guage count!

The up side of all those guages is that by the time you get them all read your 3000 mi trip would be over. :D:D

Bob

Well, Bob, you see, the problem is that Robert can still see out his windshield, so he's go more room. I was just trying to help him out a little. These actually fill in the area over the hood, so they don't block the line of view, like a pillar mount would... one thing I hate about a 2nd and 3rd gen. Hard to see what you're about to slide into in a hard power slide around a left hand corner..... :D

And ya know, these might work good with a pillar mount, which would cover up some of the area needed to cover the incoming wires... ...

Robert says freakin sweet! Robert also says he needs a set for the 90 as you can see from the photos, I have run out of room and I have another gauge to add.

But this HH... You are onto something! Fantastic!!

As for Bobs thought on all the way accross the dash, I have sen it done a few times with marginal results. Now if it is done in pod form and not what looked like 2x4s being used as the holder it may work!!!
