Hey, i just recently got gauges installed . I was planing on boost/egt/fuel pressure but when i got to the shop they did,nt have all the parts for the FP guage. They had every thing for a trany gauge i was planing on getting one later so i now have transmission/egt/boost on the pillard. Will a low Fuel pressure idiot light be good enough to keep tabs on the lift pump to keep me from ruining a injector pump$$$$. I was looking at the one BD makes its suppose to light up at 5 psi .

I think the light is better in some ways... . It will draw your attention immediatly to it if there is a problem. In an transport jet we use both the light and gauges, a warning/caution light will come on alerting you to check out the problem on a gauge, this is the best of both worlds. The AirDog unit on my truck came with an idiot light, at first I was going to hook up a FP gauge in place of it but decided against it as I like the light.

I have the BD light. Although I can't see patterns as with a guage, I'll know if the pressure drops below 5 psi which is really all I want. I'm happy.

Ive got the Dakota digital gauge- you can set a low threshhold and the readout will blink when pressure goes to or drops below 5 psi-

Just use a 12v LED and a 5psi oil pressure sending unit. Ign. 12volts into a fuse to LED to sending unit. Its that simple. A car alarm LED will work perfect. I also have and LED set up for when my wastegate opens.

I just looked at my side bar but I have a picture of them in reader rigs pics

I agree with Jetpilot. Both are the best way to go. Idiot light is necessary and should be first on Fass or Airdog system. Most failures are due to electrical and are complete meaning you either have great fuel pressure or none. Factory lift pump is nice to have gauge because they usually fail gradually and this can be seen on gauge and unit changed before trouble gets you.

Just my . 02

OK, How about a dual color LED from Radio Shack? With some simple circuitry, it could be set to display one color when the presure is in the desired range, and one color whne it falls below a set point, like 9 psi.

Not another red/green led to make me miserable. I am red/green color blind and those things are useless to me. I do really like the idea of light for the pump, anybody got a P/N for a 5 PSI oil pressure sender?

Ok i went and had a BD idiot light put it . Im glad i took it to a shop they checked my fuel pressure and the lift pump was on its last leg . So hoppefully i don,t see that light come on for awile. I like the idea of building my one but if i screwed it up it would not be good. I built a fake alarm once with an led ressister and a hidden toggle switch :-laf .

The light pretty much does a self check everytime you start the truck. When you turn the key on it will go out for a second when the pump comes on to prime the VP then it will come on until the truck starts. Mine flickers under full load and the gauge is reading about 6psi. I just had NAPA look up in there book a 5psi sending unit. Its pretty easy. Two colors is to much work. Fishing season is starting and I just got a 23' Jet boat and the Cummins loves pulling it. Black smoke on every shift.
