Ive been using Fleetguard oil filters for years. The Fram is easier to get and was woundering if any one has any good or bad experience with them. TIA Bill

Supposedly they fell apart and clogged piston cooling nozzles on the first gens, Blowing motors. Fram worked with cummins on the design after that and they are probably fine now, But the damage to the name has already been done so everyones probably going to say not to use them. I personally dont use them, I got 6 Havoline filters when I bought my truck and havent finished them up yet so Im using them until there gone. Ill probably get a more quality one like the stratopore fleetguard when I run out.

IMHO, it doesn't get any easier than ordering Fleetguard Stratapores online in quantity from Geno's Garage.

Thanks guys. I had heard about the filters coming apart but didnt know Fram was one of them. I think I better stick with fleetguard. Bill

yeah they fixed it alright, my friends truck had oil changed, they used a fram. Three days later the POS blew up. so now they have a newly rebuilt motor with a 53 block. ohh yeah that was in July.

I think for a 12v the best filter is the Fleetguard Microglass since they are more $$ then the regular Fleetguard filters, im using these, for the 24v the best are the Fleetguard Stratapores.

From Signal73:

Probably fine now... What if it's not?? I agree with RustyJC & get them from Geno's. Why take the gamble???

Cummins says the Stratapore is the filter for all of them. It's better than the Microglass. That's all I have run on my '95 since they were available. The guy at the Peterbilt dealer said that had replaced the Microglass for the 5. 9 Cummins. The parts guy at Cummins says the same thing.

It's been a few years since I/we did this but when I was working at a parts store we handled WIX filters. We took a band-saw and cut a bunch of filters in half. The difference in quality was astounding. Even if their quality has improved since then, I would never use a Fram filter. If I can't get the fleetguard, I use Wix or Napa which is supplied by Wix. I don't have any scientific data to back this up, it's just my observations.

I use Donaldson filter with amsoil, I am very pleased. Have had really bad luck with "WalMarts" Fram filters. dont shop there anymore

I use a Ford FL896 Filter. It is easiest for me to get, and it is approved by Cummins, so all is good to go. . When I can't get that, I run a Fleetguard LF3894 or a Baldwin BT339 (Haven't used Baldwin's in a looonnng time!)

Ditto on Geno's. I buy them 4 or 5 at at time and re-order when I use my last one. Same for fuel filters. Price is right / service is great...

Yeah when I see that orange filter on any engine I just cringe. I use fleetguard stratapore filters only, they are easy to get for me I have a cummins dealer 5 miles from my house.

How about oil guys? I never read anybody else running valvoline premium blue, it's all rotella or amsoil. Premium blue is cummins specific, even has a cummins logo on it!
