I have a lot of experience building racing engines and I cannot stress enough to people, whom most don't believe it when I tell them, that FRAM FILTERS are total garbage.
I have seen more than a handfull of engines(at least 5) that have failed due to the filter plugging itself up and killing the oil pressure.
The problem mainly occures when the bypass is plugged, as is the case in most chevrolet engines, big and small block, for racing applications. When the filter plugs, the pressure goes away.
I had a Small block on the dyno, about a $30k engine, and the customer shows up with a fram filter... . told him I did not want to use it but he instisted it would be fine... .
Well, sure enough oil pressure went to 0 psi shortly into the break in. Had to yank the pan and check the bearings etc to be safe, everything was fine, just put a wix filter on and we were ready to rock...
Don't use fram filters.
