Like Gary, I have used Fram oil filters in my truck off & on without incident for almost 100K miles. I have also use the Fleetguard filters - same good results. The oil is only slightly darkened at change time anyway (by the book=6000 miles) because the Cummins engines don't create nearly as much soot in the combustion process as the GM 6. 5 and the Nav/PS 7. 3 that I have also driven (but NOT owned!!). Want some free advice? Don't freak out just because some friend of a friend's cousin's brother-in-law passed along a "he said... she said" whodunnit.

i use the K&N filter that I get at checker.
The neat thing on this filter is the built in nut at the bottom of the filter. i use a end wrench sticking verticaly down then another wrench to turn it from the box end. works good!!
have 9000 miles on truck and the K&N flter is what I am going to use from now on

Like I said Mr. Fortunate1. This person that I spoke of was a co-worker, and it was his engine that failed. He brought up the FRam issue, not me. I know this person and he is very very credible. GARY:: Take the risk if you want, its your engine. Its only a few dollars more for the good filter. If you feel like playing Russian Roulette with your engine, then so be it. Just dont try and convince others to take the gamble with you with the 1% failure theory. I just dont wish to be in that 1% just to save a mere 3 dollars.

well, here's my two cents... I once had a 77 dodge d100 pickup I bought for $400, I replaced the transmission and rear end (I was dirt poor, best I could do) . This was in 1987...
The truck had a 318 in it, still going good at 160K, no smoke. Well, I got a Fram filter at WallyWorld, after running Frams on it for a year, no problems. This was the one... it broke apart, clogged the oil pump and pickup tube, my entire valvetrain starved for oil. The wife heard it, (naturally I couldn't) but didn't say anything till after she had been hearing it for about 30 minutes of driving. Fortunately, my uncle found another 318 in a salvage yard, for $250, and brought it to me.
Don't know who's more stupid, her for just sitting there, or me for marrying her. Thank god she left before I started getting quality vehicles! #ad
