Can any one tell me what the thickness of a 2500 frame should be on the open part from the box frame rearward ? Not sure if I should get another truck or repair frame.

That doesn't look good I would go to a frame and alignment shop and have them look at it
You should get your truck on a lift and do a complete inspection you mite have more problems

Just measured it the best I could.
The front (boxed) section is about 4 mm (0,16 inch) and the rear section is about 6 mm (0,24 inch), so I would say between 5/32 and 3/16 for front and about 1/4 for rear.
Others could confirm since my vernier was as frozen than my fingers :)

Thank you very much. My truck plowed snow for 2 years and I think that is what started this rot 12 years ago. Now I have something to go by. Thanks again and have a Merry Christmas !

If you are considering repairing, that’s pretty bad for sure, you could go to a bone yard and saws all a section from a donor. As mentioned above, it would be best to inspect the rest of the frame for sure, then make decision...
