I put a tp filter on my 97. It has been on for about 800 miles. I have changed the tp once. It is a black oil with 2k on it. Will it clean my oil to a clean brown? Or is that wishfull thinking?

I've seen the Amsoil dual by pass clean up the oil in 1/2 hr. drive , have not seen the frans work myself , I'm not saying that it doesn't just that I haven't see one working,
An experiance I'm having is I've got over 2,000 miles on the oil and its just starting to turn lite brown , and I haven't installed the bypass system yet.
Every other diesel I've had it turns black rite away .

Mine keeps the oil brown, used to be black after a few hundred miles, now by 2000 or so it gets to a sorta transulcent brown and stays like that till I change oil at 15k.

When I first installed my Frantz I also had about 2k miles on the oil and it did clean it some, but never back to looking like new.

I suspect that on a stock fueled truck it'd be much more impressive. Likely keep it new looking for thousands of miles longer.

This is my filter:

This is the oil on my dipstick at about 5000 miles:

Here's an oil analysis after 20,000 miles in a running extended oil usage test with Delo 400:

YUP - I'm sold on TP bypass oil filters - properly used and maintained, they are capable of excellent filtering!

Mine has the filtration solutions system on it. My oil is pretty dark still, but I put out alot of smoke. Just wouldnt trust a roll of toilet paper to filter my engine oil.

The Frantz will work great. I have had a lot of them and used to sell them in 60's. Don't have one now, don't know where I would put it. Frantz used to give you a strip of white blotter paper and you would put a drop of oil in a square each oil change. Quite dramatic how it cleans the oil up. One problem could be that sometimes the oil will "channel" through the filter if it is not packed tight enough. In the late 60's a large enough roll was hard to find. Had to look to find an industrial size scott tp roll.

Do you have a problem finding a roll large enough?

I know you will love the way frantz cleans up the oil!!

I run a Frantz filter also. On the older discussions about the Frantz there is a lot of discussion about using Scott 1000 tp but having to adapt to a 1 - 5/8" center tube. I guess I'm just lucky or something but I buy Scott 1000 that has a 1. 5" center tube and I have to remove about 60 wraps and still have a pretty tough time getting it into the cannister.

The Frantz won't visually clean the oil up, with you particular mods. Mine doesn't either. Too much black soot. I think the oil is alot cleaner than it looks. Just can't tell by your eyes. Oil sample would be the only way to tell how clean it really is. The oil is a lighter brown, than if you didn't have it on there, though.

Ok thanks. We have almost the same mods so I would think your right.

BTW - Your Frantz cleans the oil WAY finer than my RACOR LFS802.

Mine does 1um and I am satisfied with that (supposedly < 5um is safe for the engine tolerances, ie will pass right through bearings etc untouched).

However color turns black pretty quickly.

I also have the Frantz and have run it 2 years. Good results but stays black. I I can see thru it. Analysis monthly says it is OK. R C Oo.
