Especially for those who use Earthlink, but this could spread to other ISP's...

There is a con artist posing as Earthlink, e-mailing members and asking for personal information, stating that the billing system was purged and they need the information. If you get an e-mail from someone asking for this kind of information, don't respond.

I know of someone who was a victim of identity theft (stolen checks started it all), and, over a year later, she is still trying to clear her name. She still gets notices from collection agencies, etc. , and gets hassled when she tries to use a credit card.

Good post, Andy. One of my co-workers had his SSN stolen and used and he didn't know it for two years. Talk about a mess. Income tax problems started popping up, then credit card/credit reporting issues and it goes on and on for this guy. I don't know how they straighten this out.

I use Earth stink and got this e-mail a long time ago. I just deleted it thinking it was most likely a scam and figured if they really needed me they'd either call or write (snail mail). Neither of which I would have responded to any way. But I never heard of it again till now. Good info for anyone online to not respond to these types of e-mail. Definately one of my biggest peeves is junk e-mail and junk snail mail.
