Well beings I got your attention I want to tell you a story that should help you decide how to better spend your hard earned money on more power. Had I listened to everyone on TDR I would not have been put through a cold weather survival challenge offered by PPE. I read on TDR so many people love the smarty. I researched the smarty and hated it cuz it didn't raise my RPM's to 3700 or higher as my 3 hours worth of math, reading articles by greg hogue (sry if I spelled ur name wrong), and other studies over the past 3 years of my life, all told me that more RPM's would be benifical to winning more on the tracks. Since the smarty didn't raise the RPM's like the PPE did I bought the PPE Hot Xccellerator from Xtreme Diesel. I believe they sent me the wrong product. I think they sent me the base model Xccellerator (by the p/n). I tried to contact Xtreme Diesel but they wouldn't respond they online support line. So I decided lets just try this cuz I have nothing (I just removed my banks had too many problems with it). I started my truck and ran the heat until they cab was hot. At the same time I read the worthless paperwork (#1 8. 5x11 page folded into a 4 page book) provided with the PPE. I turned the truck off. Key on engine off like how I use the snapon and DRB scan tools. I tried to download the xtreme setting off the PPE tuner. in the instructions it said all accessories off, don't even open the doors as this may interupt download. I think the thing started to download. I heard relays under hood clicking and such. 12 minutes went by it was very cold in the cab (20 degrees outside). I grabbed at coat at this time. 18 minutes I could see my breath but time seemed to pass very quickly. I simply figured PPE didn't do their research on protocol (Speed communication between connector of OBDII port and PCM). 30 minutes I was thinking the PPE should be done any minute now so I thought I could wait (though it was very cold) for few more minutes for it to be done. 40 minutes I was trying to find more ways to try to hold in my body heat cuz it was very cold and painful (I will explain cold pains at the very bottom). I still figured the download could be done any time now. 55 minutes I started to get anxcious and started to think the PPE was sorry. 1 hour into the download and waiting on the clicking under the hood to stop I finally decided enough was enough. I decided to open the door and leave it open and go inside. I did this even though the directions said opening a door could interupt download. so any was I opened the door went inside cranked up the heat in the house cuz I was shivering. I ate some chips, watched 1. 5 episodes of M*A*S*H then went out to check on it. THE DERN THING WAS STILL DOWNLOADING AND IT HAD BEEN 2. 5 HOURS WORTH OF DOWNLOADING. I got mad and called the PPE a heap of ______, keyoff engine off, unplugged the PPE and then tried to start the truck. wouldn't you know it all the engine would do was pump air with about 2 hp (starter)!!!! I was mad said a few more words about how you can spend $900 and make a $30,000 truck not run anymore. What started as wanting to upload some horse power and drive it around the block a few times turned into a cold weather survival (not supposed to touch anything inside truck), and ended with a mouthful of foul words to describe PPE, and a $30,000 truck that doesn't run. the instruction PPE provided said that you have to disconect the batteries, wait 2 minutes then connect them and get the PPE to install stock program. I can fix alot of things on trucks and cars as I have worked in automotive shops and wents to automotive schools all through highschool and 2 years a NTI. But the reason I have been shelling out big $$$ paying others to work on my stuff for me is because it is too cold to work on anything in the driveway. My truck doesn't fit in the garage or the shed with a garage door. I experience severe pain when out in the cold for a shop accident (see bottom) and that is the reason I have literally been hibernating for a few months now and letting myself go. So it is a nitemare for me to go in the garage find a 2 1/2inch wrenches and undo the batteries.
I have been thinking about waiting til tommorow in the daylight and make a video of what to do with a $900 piece of crap using the video camera and the shotgun, then the computer and uploading it all over the internet including TDR. Next time I will simply listen to those on TDR and buy the smarty and wait for the smarty engineers to get off their pot of gold (at least they should have one by the amount of people on TDR buying there stuff) and make a program for those who want to run more RPM's. I personally will be getting the truck running and drive to my grandma house and call Xtreme diesel and send this heap of crap PPE back and buy the smarty. The smarty uploads in 2 minutes while the PPE takes over 2. 5 hours. Theres a slim chance smarty will hurt the PCM permanantly, The PPE can definitely do this, I would imagine easily. The smarty can recover from interupted downloading simply by unplugging then pluggin back in and hitting a button. The PPE you have to grab you coat, spend a while looking through the reroganized garage for 2 half inch wrenches, undo both batteries, zip tie the battery terminals away from the battery so they would touch it, go inside the house wait 2 minutes, then connect the batteries, and wait for the PPE to possibly repair the damage it caused. if it cannot fix the damage you spend money on a tow bill, let a dealer touch your truck (they screw mine up everytime so I don't care if I have a warranty cuz I hate the dealers), Let them upload a new program to the PCM that includes the updates I personally don't want (the one where if not in park and you open the door the alarm goes off and scares the _____ out of you and wakes up the neighbors with in all just embarasses you), then hitch a ride in the "ford smokehouse" (my gma's car) spend the money your saving up for the twin turbos on the repair, then fix what the dealer screwed up touching my truck. NEVER AGAIN WILL I BUY SOMETHING FROM PPE. I was considering PPE's twin CP3 kit... . yeah right I'm going for the ATS twin CP3 now. The only way I would ever consider a PPE product again is if I find out the compnay has changed hands, and hear good things about the new owners. When it comes down to it everyone is free to make their own decisions on what they want to run on their trucks. I don't make the decisions for you so you make up your own mind whether PPE is right for you. All I am saying in this thread is PPE is not for me and possibly not those who live in areas of crime as someone can steal your PPE during the 2. 5+ hours of downloading from their tuner. This thread simply represents my personal thoughts of PPE hot xcellerator. others may have had more positive experience and others who choose to buy a PPE in the future may have a good experience. Don't choose not to buy a PPE cuz of me. This is a free country buy what ever you can legally buy and have the money for.
