Had my truck in this morning for it's first oil change and the transmission line recall. I also asked them to do TSB 18-004-04.

The only question was, "What does that TSB relate to?" When I told him, the service writer said they would check it out and do it if it applied to my truck.

Less than two hours later, I drove my truck away with all three items complete. They even gave me a copy of the TSB, as I had requested. :D

The only trouble is that it doesn't seem to be working. Maybe it only works if the engine is cold. I guess I'll have to try it again tomorrow morning.

If anyone has a place to post it, I can scan the TSB tonight and email it to you. PM me.

Bob

PS. I forgot one thing... Evidently this TSB applies to '98. 5 to '04 trucks. :)

Tsb

I just got back from my dealer and he had two factory guys there. He asked them about the TSB and they said that he should wait to get some feedback on this flash before doing it to my truck.

I had an appt. today to get the TSB done and when I pulled in my tech recommended waiting. We have all heard about flashes that are supposed to one thing but end up doing others and some are not good. Such as lower mileage and low power.

So for now I will wait and see how it goes.

Also the factory guys both have CTD's and they were doing the flash when I was talking to the tech. The factory guys are going to keep in touch with my dealer and will tell me what they think of the TSB.

I know you just got this TSB done but what impressions do you have as far as power.

Is it still running the same?

Thanks

I drove about 15 miles to work. Some at 60-65 and a bunch of stop & go.

I couldn't feel any difference in power (I was paying attention for that).

It felt like it might have affected my auto transmission shifting. It didn't seem quite as anxious to shift into OD at 40 mph. I count that as a good thing, if true.

Next weekend, it looks like I'll be making a 1000 mile run (each way). That should let me know for sure.

I took mine in this morning. I told them that the truck is confused as when to shift and i told them when i give the truck{when O/D on at 30 (example speed)} gas it seems very sluggish then it shifts pretty hard, sometimes its as bad as a jerk. Plus i have the recall, And im having the cab lights put on :). IMO i think i recieved a bad transmission from day one..... Hell i like how my friends 03 with the 47re shifts better than mine Who knows maybe ill get a new trans?

Dan (DF5152) has put the TSB up on his web page for any who are interested.

I still could not get the high idle to work this morning. Monday morning, I plan to stop by the dealer and see if they will hook up the DRBIII to make sure the tech enabled it.

It looks like us manual guys are getting left in the dark on this one. I would be very happy to have this on mine, but the whole part about erasing and reprogramming ECM causes me some concern, especially when I am getting very good mileage and have no power complaints.

I guess time will tell if there are any problems.

I'd love to hear more feedback on this before deciding to do it. The 1000 rpm idle that it does by itself seems sufficient. Why would I want to flood my neighborhood with the added smog from 1500 rpms? My '03 is noticeably more stinkly than my '00 was. A am hoping that the tag helps this alittle. I saw stats that claimed 45% reduction in emissions. I sure hope they are noticeable.

I am also leary of flashes. I personally have not had problems, but I've read enough posts from folks saying they lost power and mileage after a flash to want to avoid.

Anyone ever heard of trucks improving their mileage after a flash. Thats what I need; I'm pretty reliably getting below 13 in town.

Talked to the tech at the dealer on Friday to see what they new about the TSB. He said that he had tryed it on his and that it didnt work on his but he said somehitng about his sale code ending in an F and the TSB only applying to C and H. So my truck is going into the shop bright and early tomaorw to get the transmission line fixed and Im hoping my sales code ends with a C or an H so I can get it working and let all yall know that this works. Will hopfully know by lunch tomaorw. Ill let yall know

It applies to sales code ETH (high-output) and ETC (standard-output) trucks. I have no idea what "F" means unless there is a new sales code for the '04. 5 325/600 engine.

You can check out the TSB at the link I posted above to see if it applies to your truck. All of the details are there.

I went to my dealer Friday to get the recall done for the trans cooler line and I talked them into doing the TSB for the high idle. It works great on my truck. With the trans in park all you do is turn on the cruise control and press the set button and the rpm goes to about 1100. It can then be raised a bit at a time to 1500 by pressing the acc button. It can be lowered back to 1100 rpm by pressing the decel button. It can be released by tapping the brake, coast button or turning off the cruise control.

Don-T thats great news!

Don have you tried it in nuetral as well?

This would be nice to use to cool the transmission.

Took my truck in this morning around 8:30, they didnt call me back tell like 11:45 to tell me it was done and when I went up there to get the truck at 12:00 the guy behind the counter told me everything worked great and I was good to go. Well I go to the truck start her up, hit cruse and set and... ... NOTHING. After doing it a couple times go talk to the guy behind the counter and he dosent even know what it is, he reads the first page of the TSB and he thinks it has to do with the AC/Heating unit. I tell him what is and and how it works, his responce Hmm sounds like something we might have to charge you for. Im like WTF go get the manager. I talk to manager and he said that he did it on his AFTER I TOLD HIM ABOUT IT on Friday so he takes over and after about an hour he finally gets it to work and its been working fine all after noon. Hope everyone else dosent have this much truble, you just have to remind them to turn it on after they do the flash.

I stopped in at the dealer this morning about the high idle not working. As I had hoped, the tech just hadn't enabled it. Works great now. :)

For those who were concerned, power and fuel mileage appear unaffected by the flash.

As for what years this will work on, I posted a link to the TSB earlier in this thread. If I'm reading it right, it applies to '98. 5 through 2004 trucks, but apparently not the '04. 5.
