so i am still new and this may have be old news

but it is a wonderful resource. from holset at

i must say i was impressed even sent them a e-mail

to thank them for the web site and getting the info

out! i was using it for research on the hx-50 we have

at work and extremely high failure rate on the m-11

Is that the WH1C bigger compressor?

I was looking at one and wondered how much difference it would make.

I am not sure about the WH1C, but I think it's the wastegated version of our turbos used on the early second gens. So, they would be very similar. I have been doing some research and found that HX35's are also very similar to our H1C. They use the exact same turbine wheel. The compressor wheels are different on the HX35, only on the backface only to compensate for different stack up heights. The 60mm compressor impeller I will be using is the largest available for the HX40 or H1E turbo. I will also be using new bearings, and possibly doing a complete rebuild while I have it apart.

Mike, are you saying that the H1C and the HX35 move the same amount of air? They have the same exhaust wheel, and same compressor wheel? Where can we find a chart showing output of the different turbos vs rpm etc?

I believe that the early first gens used the H1C, then later went to the WH1C (eliminated "air separation") after that, in 94 and up, they used the HX35. At least that's my understanding.

There is apparently little if any major differences between the WH1C and the HX35.

Bushwakr is right. I did some more research and found that the HX35s started being used in '94. Some time ago I thought I read on Fritz's Ram Page that the early second gens used the WH1C, but apparently not.



HFletcher - I wasn't saying that they are the same turbo, just that they are similar, and compressor wheel is slightly different. I am unsure about the bearings, etc. Some have had good luck swapping there H1C or WH1C, with an HX35. The difference they notice, besides the compressor wheel, could also be the difference between good and bad bearings. From what I have heard getting charts from holset can be difficult, and it will cost you. I have seen some charts, but not for our turbos.
