I need to know which socket i need to remove the spindle nut to service my wheel bearings. When i had the Free spin kit installed he told me it needs the 6 pin socket. I just want to make sure i get the right one before i get it all torn down. Napa said they have one, i never gave them a part number or told them what it's for, she just kept telling me it would work. Kragen didn't even know what i was talking about but had a generic 6 pin for 10 bucks. They couldn't tell me what it was for or reference any numbers from it The one from Napa says it's for a 78-84 F-250. When i called dynatrac they said just get the one for a Dana 60 but he didn't know what size it was. Did the old F-250 Danas have the same size components as the Dodges? I'm hoping someone who has installed theirs or taken theirs apart knows what i need and could help me out. Thanks in advance!

As far as I know, they are all the same. I got a hub spindle nut socket for a Dana 60, and it works great. Just make sure you get the 6 pin instead of the 4, as both were used at different times. As far as Ford, Dodge, Chevy, whoever, the "size" is all the same.

Hey Eric,

Thanks a lot for the help i appreciate it! I should have the right one then, and hopefully it'll be painless.

The 6-pin socket is for the later Dana 60, the 4-pin socket is for the later Dana 44... the 4-pin is too small to fit over the Dana 60 spindle in most cases.

Both the 44 and 60 used actual hex nuts early on, which varied from 6-point with pointed flats to 8-point with rounded flats... and this was typically a guess until you tore them apart.

I wound up with this one HERE I'll try it out and see what happens. I'm nervous now as to the depth issue. I guess we'll see, I called every chain in town and this was the best i got. I'm going to do the job up at my folks so if i need something different i know the mom and pop parts store there should have it. Thanks again guys.
